But you missed one - if we get Benteke, Sigurdsson makes no sense and we really should get Barkley signing on the dotted line, as he's tailor made for a Benteke type hold-up striker.

Considering he plays exactly the same way and his strike rate is almost identical I fail to see how he's a "different player".

There definitely is a pattern with the centre forwards we seem to be getting linked with. Dzeko, Giroud and Benteke. All good in the air. Which is probably the reason we are after Sigurdsson no matter how much he costs.

I can see Koeman's reasoning. It neutralises teams that press high and fullbacks today are more like wingers and are poor at defending crosses.

Out of that lot I really hope it's Giroud.

Benteke is a Pulis striker. Not good enough for what we are building here. Boring, safe, low ceiling signing.

Nobody is saying he's to be the main man, with Thursday;s taken care of with Europa league football we know from experience we will need a big,strong adaptable squad full of options and Benteke fits right in there, I'm not arsed he played for the RS it's what he can do for us that counts.

You have to have a plan b in games. Sandro, Rooney, klassen and possibly siguardsson are all technically very good players. Benteke offers us something different; a real threat physically and in the air. Can you just imagine set pieces with siguardsson or Sandro over the ball with Keane and Benteke as targets. We haven't had that threat from set pieces since Ferguson was here. It's a thumbs up from me
