China's army is not to be trifled w/ but their navy is a clown show. Does this mean they'll always be like this, no, but they are a good 25 years behind us.

60 minutes loves promoting the military industrial complex.

Dad, both grandfathers served in the Navy. No one is better at passively lobbying for new and expensive stuff than the US Navy. Its why we have a lot more carriers the size of a small city and cruisers w/ literal friggin laser beams than we need while the Army/Marines are driving humvees w/o armour in warzones because of the cost savings.

Yes, that's exactly what the Pacific Fleet Commander was talking about.in the report.

The argument is, that generation gap in naval superiority is what has deterred China from forcibly asserting itself on Taiwan thus far. If the status quo re Taiwan and the other pacific islands are to be maintained, then the opposing forces to China must also strengthen.

The biggest deterent Taiwan has is that Taiwanian missles can reach China. So give them more missles, develop weapons like lower cost fighters that arent a celebration of pork that Taiwan can afford. Provide no/low cost training to the Taiwan military.

You never want to pick fights w/ your neighbors because they can easily hit back. Its always better when said country is half way around the world The middle east exists because occasionally countries like the USA and the UK need to blow off steam by blowing up some kids w/ minimal repercussions

The other big deterrent is that China needs us more than we need China. China can't just decouple itself from the west like Russia can. Xi's primary goal is "self sufficiency" and are still a country that needs economic growth. Not to mention China and India aren't on the best of terms and closing diplomatic realationships w/ the west will only make India stronger.

Yes Xi gonna get older, more and more senile and might pull a Putin, but building extra 20B Carriers aren't going to do a thing because neither navy will mess w/ the other.
