Current Affairs China and its treatment of minorities

I'm thankful that Breitbart news provides a window into some of these happenings in China because the rest of the press fears to tread in this area. Probably because the Chinese put up money in the way of advertising demanding certain things either get reported in a certain way or don't get reported. Just as they threaten countries that speak out against them.
:Blink:lol

Good grief...

I'm sure everybody would condemn idiots that cannot differentiate innocent people from the actions of a state (however the Labour party proves me wrong on this with its ludicrous, constant attacks on Jewish people which is despicable and hypocritical when it dares to call others racists).

Nevertheless one difference between the UK and China is that the state doesn't order the discrimination of people from a certain denomination as occurs regularly in China. For Muslims and Christians, but also we have recently had Chinese landlords evicting black tenants from homes even though they had the ability to pay their rents and had not violated the terms of their lease. Hotels also banned black customers, resulting in large numbers of African people sleeping on the streets during a pandemic in lockdown! Restaurants like McDonald’s posted signs stating that black people were not allowed on the premises. Africans complained that, when not evicted, they were placed on house arrest, “quarantined” even when testing negative for coronavirus and not having any recent travel history.

I'm thankful that Breitbart news provides a window into some of these happenings in China because the rest of the press fears to tread in this area. Probably because the Chinese put up money in the way of advertising for our mainstream media demanding certain things either get reported in a certain way or don't get reported at all just as they threaten countries that speak out against them.

It was widely reported in the UK several weeks ago. BBC, The Times, FT, Independent, Guardian all had articles on it.

No offence mate but just like how the CCP propaganda outlets that Dave links to (Global News ffs lol ) have no place on this thread or forum, so the same applies to Breitbart.

Interesting article on the spread of anti-Chinese racism by a combination of mainstream politicians + big business + social media groups like Facebook and Instagram and Tik Tok + right wing extremist groups.

China's human rights record needs condemning, but we mustn't lose sight of the racism that's being visited on western-based Chinese communities.

It's amazing how much of this sounds like what we have here: inter and intra-generational disputes about the state of the nation; disputes about the national role on the world stage; disputes about the extent and nature (and desirability) of patriotism; disputes about the political nature of the media and who owns it; disputes about the rich and the poor, the have's and the have nots.

Progress, no thanks to Labour as usual....

More than twenty Conservative parliamentarians have written to Boris Johnson’s trade secretary urging action to reduce Britain’s “dangerous” dependence on China, after a report revealed the country relies on the Communist-led dictatorship for many vital supplies.

A report by the Henry Jackson Society found that Britain relies on China for the supply of some 71 “critical goods” — including pharmaceutical products necessary to manufacture antibiotics and anti-viral drugs, as well as well as important chemical and electronics, according to The Times.

Tory backbenchers including former party leader Iain Duncan Smith and former Cabinet ministers David Davis and Owen Paterson have in consequence signed a letter addressed to Liz Truss, Secretary of State for International Trade, urging an annual audit of the countries supplying such vital trade, and action with like-minded democracies such as the United States, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand to counteract the outsized influence of the Chinese Communist Party in world trade.

I see that the CCP have levied an 80% import tax on Australian barley, just because the Aussies have the temerity to support an investigation into the Wuhan Flu.

One wonders if they'll also impose an 80% import tax on baby formula.

Mr. Su mocked Mr. He’s contention that young Chinese people have access to all the knowledge that the world has to offer and the freedom to make choices.

“Congratulations! You have the rights to criticize the United States and the traitors. Everything else is 404,” he wrote, referring to the error message for censored web pages and sites.

lol so true.

I must admit that I did have a giggle at the spread of 'anti-chinese' sentiment on Tik-Tok, given it's a Chinese copy of IG - a prime example of the IP theft that is committed so often by China - and is absolutely rampant with pro-CCP propaganda.

The internal divisions and dissent made plain in that NY Times piece suggests we're not too dissimilar. Look at what happens to whistle blowers in the west; look at who owns the media and the level of accountability of politicians; look at the levels of inequality; look at the pampered and pro-regime elite; look at the attacks on social media against people, smeared with being agents of foreign states.

An attack on China makes no sense until our own house is in order.

I think there will be more than those countries reviewing what they now buy in against what they used to make.

laughing at your one sided naivety. If you know how to use Google translate, try Weibo.
If you are brave enough, I’ll sponsor your trip to XIn Jiang and try pick a conversation with any local Uighurs on the street and let us know what you encounter.

racism is not right at any level. But you must be sick to think that the level of racism in China is comparable to what’s happening in the west.
