Change of Manager

Player Valuation: £50m
Having been a big fan of Moyes, and appreciating what he did for us with the available resources, and especially in getting us out of the perrenial relegation dogfight, I was disappointed to see him go but understood why....its not every day the Champions come knocking. I even felt over the last two seasons he developed us into a really attractive side at times, albeit he had tactical difficiences in terms of generally playing not to lose rather than palying to win.
I was ready for a change of manager to freshen us up, and felt that of the likley candidates Roberto Martinez was a good fit - though like everyone I had doubts.

The last two weeks have been very interesting....enlightening even. The conduct of Moyes and his new paymasters with regards to bidding for our players (after apparently having an agreement they wouldn't) plus the derisory offers made have shown a different side to the man, as has the admission that the Utd job was in the bag long, long before it was officially anounced. Running down a contract wasnt really an issue for me, until it became clear he had another contract on the table and could have generated us some compensation.....the Peoples Club tag well and truly meant nothing in the last 12 months, although I reckon it did prior to that.

Now, we have the very positive, very approachable and very well presented Roberto Martinez.....the players look really relaxed in training, the new style is encouragingly being taken on board and his press conference today showed he 'gets' Everton. I have to say Im very pleased we have the new manager we have, and the way he's settled in.

Anyone else who admired Moyes feel likewise?

I fell out of love with Moyes years ago, the time of his previous contract fiasco.

Moyes just ain't that good a manager to be behaving in the arogant manner he is.

How well the team does will determine my love for Martinez but aye its refreshing to see someone seemingly enjoying managing the club. For the last five years Moyes made it seem like it was a chore to him.

I think we need to give it more than two weeks before we hop aboard the Martinez bandwagon personally. That's the mistake people made with Moyes, it's just too soon.

For me, I'm just happy the dour ginger tosser is gone, but that doesn't mean I'm in for a love in with Martinez - it feels like some of you are on the rebound and need any replacement going for "In Moyes We Trust"!

Just heard Martinez on SSN specifically mention "the chairmans anger" at the bid for the "most expensive player" (felli) at less than what we paid.

It says more about peoples slowness picking up on the signals re Moyes years ago - during his first contract negotiations he virtually down tools till he got what he wanted. He mentioned managing Scotland, abroad and elsewhere at the drop of hat and his arms length approach to the fans left no doubt we were a stepping stone.

In no way do I think he did anything other than an ordinary job and his behaviour since leaving is entirely predictable.

It's never too soon to join the bandwagon, only too late. Get excited. Get too excited. Yell. Foam at the mouth. Walk around the house with your pants off! It's never too soon to go crazy!

allez allez allez, ooooh

I still think what he accomplished here was very good and better than the vast, vast majority of managers would do in similar circumstances. Some disagree ... we don't need to go down that road again.

His actions surrounding his departure and more-so his actions since becoming Man U manager have made me dislike him.

That doesn't change how I rate what he did for a decade here from a pure management standpoint ... but it makes me like him a lot less on a "character" level.

Prior to his departure if you'd asked me "would you want Moyes back if he went to Man U for 2-3 years and then was available again and your replacement manager hadn't worked" ... I would have said yes.

Now I would say no. That's probably not logical (since we know he can do the job) but it is what it is.

If we're ranking managers on net spend etc. v. league position or whatever he'd still be up there for what he did here ... but also he can 'koff.

Sometimes you get a manager who "fits". I think Moyes fitted for a long time. He had high expectations, expected his side to work hard, and gave us some pride, when we had been a bit of a laughing stock for 10 years. I think for the final few years he changes in his demeanor. He wanted a top job, or at least a job with the levels of support Kenwright couldn't give to him. Kenwright for his part, I doubt was that honest. I think Moyes felt, perhaps justifiably untouchable. But in the end, it wasn't a great fit, as he always felt he knew best. Maybe he was doing what looked best for his CV, and not always the best for the long term of the club. The results were impressive, but I felt he had had enough, and perhaps the fans were heading that way.

I like Martinez, I think he fits us well. A young manager who is very positive. He acknowledges the difficulties, but doesn't make a huge issue of them, and tried to look at the positive (ie the amount of young players we have coming through). He seems considered and to have high expectations of those around him. He seems very appreciative of what he has at Everton (more than Moyes did at the end) and essentially happy that he has a group of players who can successfully play as he might like a team too, as opposed to Wigan, where the game plan was always too risky. He has slotted in very well, seems calm and positive, so I like him. He wasn't my first choice, I'd have preferred someone with a Dutch/German background, but Martinez is doing well so far.

This! Hahaha.

Personally I'm gonna knee jerk my way through the season.
