Cancelling this season's Premier League

Should football be canceled until August and this season declared null and void?

What’s this talk I heard on the radio earlier that Italy plan to restart the league next month albeit behind closed doors? If Italy and then Spain decide to restart the league then I can only see the premier league following suit unfortunately.
are you kidding? leaked Italian documents suggest Italian football cannot come back before January 2021 and that is behind closed doors

I've voted to void.

Interesting that it's RS pundits who are most eager to play on.

You can't use current positions. Villa have a game in hand. Win and they are out of the bottom three.

This festival of football idea is nonsense. Teams lose their home advantage and it would involve hundreds if not thousands of people from the emergency services. You'd also get thousands outside the stadiums.
Only Nevin refusing to toe to 'media £££' party line there - Bullets in the post for dat' bitter me thinks
Side mouth talking Murphy thinks it will be ace just like the virtual Grand National - only difference is this is the risks would be real you whopper.

Honestly don't see how it can be finished to be honest. If you can't get it finished by say end of June which is highly unlikely then it should be voided. Mad how football seem to be so desperate to finish it with what's going on across the world. Most other sports are just cancelling events and that's in June and July. Yet football seems to think it's got a right to do what they want. Disgraceful really and shows how football is so far away in touch with real life and its fans.

Austria just announced that they are going to allow training and, eventually, 'Geisterspiele' (televised games without spectators) for the Bundesliga (top division) and the cup finalists.

All club and league employees (anyone involved with training or games) will have to be tested by the League prior to a game. Training will be in small groups and, if one of the group becomes infected, all of the group will have to quarantine.

Lower leagues will apparently end their seasons. What happens with the Second Division is not yet clear.

In addition non-contact single person sports (running, cycling, tennis, golf, etc.) will be allowed from May 01, with extended rules for personal distancing for running and cycling (10 metres and 20 metres respectively).

Austria only has around 300 deaths, they haven't got the virus like we have, they want to be careful

To be honest I will be glad when they have done what they need to do to hand the title to the rs because I'm sick of hearing about it.
To me if they do get it,all i will know them as will be the VAR-Corona Champions, and most normal people will only go on about how bad this virus has been, were as those lot will go on about nothing else but winning the league-if it does get finished and the new season started pretty quickly that could Quieten them a little tiny bit

if the seasons made void do Man City qualify for the champions league next season despite there ban? If no who takes there place?

Was thinking earlier about how the scenarios for league structures would play out, and based on what people want it’d get seriously confusing

If we null and void - the leagues stay as is down to National League South, meaning still no Bury in League One and a possibility that Bolton have their 12 point deduction carried over. City’s Euro ban still stands meaning we get Europe for finishing 8th last season. All cup holders remain as 2018/19

If we call an early end with current standings - the brethren get their tainted title but so do Leeds, Coventry, Crewe, Barrow, York and Wealdstone. Automatic promotions for West Brom, Rotherham, Swindon and Plymouth. Fulham, Oxford, Exeter, King’s Lynn and Havant and Waterlooville also promoted has highest ranked in playoff spots to ensure even numbers in each league. All relegation places valid. City’s Community Shield and League Cup wins stand, FA Cup, EFL Trophy and FA Trophy asterisked as having no winner

if we end but restructure with no relegation - Becomes more muddled as you have to find away to have an even number of teams across all leagues if you promoted the top 2/3 in EFL and the title winners in the NL with having a Bury shaped void and no relegation

League 1 and 2 clubs calling for the season to be cancelled now.

It’s only a matter of time. There’s the door shut on those who claim they’ll go bust if it gets cancelled. They actually need it cancelling.

That's already in the record books and won't be voided - why should it be? The Community Shield and League Cup season has no relation to the Premier League/EFL seasons.

They are not going to get away with not making a decision much longer. People need some sort of clarity. I mean the cowardice of those in football, desperately hoping for someone else to take the decision will undermine them.

It's interesting as you say that they are now saying we need to cancel, rather than re-start. I think a cancel and void will help them enormously in terms of wages, bonuses etc. Don't underestimate the significance of that either, if lower leagues start to move it;s like a fire beneath the PL to act.

Anyone with half a brain would be sorting the wages out and the TV contract payments then voiding to give people clarity. It's chaotic enough without trying to fit in 1/4 of a season after the season is meant to be over.

I saw another L1 chairman basically say, trying to play the season, would lead to jeopardising next season and bankrupt the club. TV deals will not be honoured if they start in October/November. Thats the point in this. We need to prioritise next season. 1 messed up season they may accept, but ensuring this mess continues over 2-3 years won't work.

A decision is going to have to come in the coming weeks. We are likely to be in lockdown till early May.A decision will have to be made before then, and it's hard to see any decision other than cancelling given we will still be in lockdown. You can't plan on the off chance lockdown is miraculously lifted and football is allowed again, and people need certainty.

It's slowly starting to sink in. And as I said, once we started getting to May, vanity projects of who wins what trophies are going to be very quickly replaced with the crucial questions of how we are going to keep football afloat. In the context we are in, who really cares who could have won what. It's yesterdays news from the pre Corona Virus world.

I'm not trying to blown my own trumpet. but I did warn of this. I did warn it would be very very difficult to move the June 30th date, and it would be a legal minefield to go beyond it. It now seems to be registering in PL clubs heads.

In stead of pursuing ridiculous options that would not stand up in law, they should have been making plans on that basis already. I will also add, we have in all likelihood already missed the deadline to finish by the time required, so a decision really just has to be made. We have given it every chance we could do, and more. We've done more than is reasonable, but the time has now well passed to make a decision to finish this season and start preparing for next.
