Cancelling this season's Premier League

Should football be canceled until August and this season declared null and void?

i just cant see the season resuming unless there is a vaccine in place which could be months away

scientists are now saying those who have been infected with covid-19 have been re-infected again due to dormant cells or something

Around 18 I'd wager.

The second paragraph, I'm sceptical about this reinfection idea. Sells papers/gets clicks. 2 case reports of reinfection out of the many thousands who have tested positive. Highly doubt that.

This is why I cant see football again this year, if the spread of the virus slows it's only because we are doing nothing but stay in, go back to normal and it will be worse.
It's sad, maybe on the scale of what's important and what isnt right now, it's no big deal, but we wont be seeing football this summer.

Seeing reports the lockdown. May last 70 days which would be early June. And then I'd suspect a slow incremental resumption of normal life. Footie may be back of that list of priorities.
See from what I picked up on the Government press thing tonight, they want social distance to last longer then lockdown. By that I'm guessing shops maybe to open more ...etc but events with a gathering such as gigs, festivals, the match.... etc should stay out longer

Yup, if footie resumes it'll likely be behind closed doors. Again, not exactly the highest of priorities in the grand scheme.

If the league is restarted whenever, how many on here would have the appetite to go to our remaining home games not sure I would.

I cannot see any football before August 2021.

Unless they play the whole of next season behind closed doors.

The reason I say this is because even COVID is brought under control by mid summer, the received wisdom is that a “second wave” will probably hit us come winter.

So precautions will need to be taken to meet this scenario head on.

Ergo mass gatherings of 30/40/50,000 and above are just not going to be tolerated by the authorities IMO.

I think some kind of “social distancing“ is with us for a good nine months to a year after the all clear is sounded in, say, June or July.

The way the games authorities have handled this has been nothing short of disgusting. People are dying daily in depressingly huge numbers, the prime minister is in ICU in a really bad way, even those of us who haven't been directly impacted by the virus have seen our lives changed massively with this lockdown. Despite all of that, the people who run football have one goal and one goal only: finish the season at all costs. Its actually revolting how they've behaved during this. If ever there was a sign of how soulless and corrupt football is, it's this whole episode. This might be the end of the road for me. I don't know if I can continue to help finance these utter scumbags. I only hope that people begin to walk away from the game after this. Its only when the sewer rats at the top start to lose money that we'll have a real chance reforming the game.
Completely agree with you at first it was a bit of a joke, that they wouldn't win the league this season, however when countless people are dying and the mother of a premier league manager dies football simply no longer matters. It's one thing for people to say they miss the footy, that's fine, but actively trying to restart the league at at time when it good put people's lives at risk, just isn't right. Considering the number of idiots I've seen on scrambler bikes and doing other things they shouldn't, you know considering the intellect to the average RS, that loads of them will turn up to games. Anybody who wants to continue the league should have a bell strapped round their neck for life, so everybody knows who these idiots are. If events in June are being cancelled, how do these divvies think they are going to start premier league games any time soon. I think they have completely misjudged the public's mood and they may pay for their nonsense, I've frankly become sick and tired of football, average players just sitting on long contracts refusing the move, it's disgusting. Football has been going downhill for the last 6 years, I just don't really get any enjoyment out of it.
