Can we afford another war?

The next theatre could be in South America. The Argies know better and there economy couldn't sustain a proactive war. Chavez is a big blow hard. Reminds me of a character named Hussein........... Now what ever became of him?

He went crazy due to flea infestation?

It won't ever come to it....Argentina knows we can re-inforce those islands within 24 hours....They will try the diplomatic moaning approach, to no avail....shame, they are nice people really, and the ladies are especially pretty in Buenos Aires...they just have this hang-up about that god-forsaken group of rocks....

Get over it....they're ours (we stole them first)

:lol:And rep.(y)

Within 24 hours? From where?

From the UK (via airbridge....They practice it from time to time ...they can deploy an entire combat ready Infantry Battalion to the Falklands within 24 hours)....They can deploy additional fighters/ground attack aircraft within 8 hours, via Ascension island, and air-air re-fulling.

Forces in theatre
- Resident infantry company based down there (bout 200 Men strong).
- and the locals have their own defense force (bout 250 strong)
- 6 x Tornado F3 air-air fighters
- 1 x Sqn RAF regiment (bout 200 strong)
- 2 x Air defense squadrons (Rapier batteries)
- RAF search and rescue sqn (2 Sea-Kings)
- RN Frigate patrolling off-shore
- RN supply vessel
- -Plus 600 assorted military engineers/communications specialist/cooks -(The cooks are nails....and are often seen scrapping behind the mess coz somebody critised their food)

- I reckon theres also an attack sub patrolling the waters as well

so all in all the argies have no chance...especially when they come up against the cooks - they'd get battered, cooked and served up for lunch!

HOOAH!!!

We could easily end up with a war over this; or at least another 'conflict'.

Amidst a recession, and with a navy cut down to nothing I wonder if we'll bother once Argentina starts sabre rattling - (on the grounds of sovereignty, not oil. honest.) I suppose it depends on the size of the deposits.

Well if Cameron gets a majority I'm sure they'll be up for it. Never knowingly back down from a fight they can win the Tories.

Few of their sons will be on the front line though.

NO .

On any level .

took them 3 weeks to arrange a task force and get it down there, last time I seem to remember.

No airlifting is gonna compensate for a serious navy presence if they bum rush us like last time.

Its not as if there part of the channel islands is it?

I sometimes think we'd all live in peace if we stopped drilling feckin oil up.

America has your back regardless of our stance during the last war... It's a new world we live in, and the yanks dont give a sh1te about right or wrong... we just have an itch to fight smaller weaker countries in preperation for the big ones..

And who would they be nowadays?

Its never gonna go that far anyways....they know the only way is via diplomacy, and that aint gonna work either, so they'll shout a bit, but thats about all they can do.

As for the 3 week thingy...we never had any large-scale airlift capability last time, we do now, and we have an airfield in the falklands (Mt Pleasant), as well as a staging airfield on Ascension Island in the middle of the South Atlantic.

Believe me ....defending those islands is not an issue for us, and as for bum rushing us...well we have sophisticated Longe Range radar on the islands, as well as a SIGINT listening post...so if they even fart in Buenes Aires then we know about it.

we talkin' argies here and Falklands?
make no mistake if any British Sovereign territory is challenged... we will blow the twa@s out of the sky the ocean and off the face of the land, it will be forget Iraq, forget the afghans, our lads will pay for their own flights.
those thickset dark haired bastards will wish they had learned the 1st time... the war machine will spring to life & open up 1 eager eye.

basically we will say to America, "observe and see how this is done..... this is how to handle 'domestic' issues."

Apart from the Falklands issue , the u.k. and argentina have great historical relations.... strained obviously by the fat cocaine snorting handballin' cheat

well we've got TLAMs now. 1000 mile range, GPS tracking and guidence, along with the SkyNet system

In terms of standoff weaponry we've got loads more to throw at them at arms length unlike in 1982.

So their aircraft won't get off the tarmac ... to then challenge our Typhoons stationed there anyway.

And no air superiority - no land invasion.

However, knowing Gordon he'll cut the budget on the sly (again) then tell everyone he increased it (which he didn't)
