Blue Union Board Angst

I read the opening page and then couldn't be bothered to read the rest. This is going to be a rant at the change in the breed of Evertonians that have and are emerging. There seems to be this spend, spend spend culture now I understand that the North West region has 4 main Clubs, us the RS, Man Utd and Citteh. Apart from us the rest have had literally billions spent and won things. We missed out late 80s going into the 90s based on the European ban from attracting major investment. However the last couple of decades as an Evertonian have been frustrating non more so than the farce of last term under the guidance of Martinez. We are now entering a new era whereby we are already seeing a very rapid change in our Everton, the old lady is getting a makeover at last, we are developing Finch Farm, there is the ongoing (more positive than previous) talk of the new stadium etc etc

But there are a majority of Evertonians that want the league title now with Messi and Ronaldo in the royal blue with neur sweeping at the back. Well boys and girls this isn't going to happen anytime soon, the financial rules wouldn't let us go out and spend millions and millions like what happened at city. Sadly you are going to have to be patient, for christs sake let a ball at least get kicked before moaning. It must be a nightmare wanting to try and sign someone like Juan Mata when your trying to attract them to a place which was dreadful last season.

Get behind the new regime, it's a clean slate yes there is some people still clinging onto a position within the club such as elstone but he won't be around for much longer thats for sure. Once we are attractive again and winning games then the bigger named players will come, so anyone willing to demonstrate in the ground or streets of Goodison Park is not an Evertonian in my eyes. Give it time and talk to people that remember Peter Johnson, Walter Smith, Mike Walker, Brett Angel, I could go on but I would ended up posting in the depression thread.

GET BEHIND RONALD AND THE TEAM! OH ITS A GRAND OLD TEAM.......

Evertonian who presumably saw the club win the league and be best in europe in having a go at younger fans unhappy with mediocre crap for 25 year shocker.

RAWK are convinced it is you! :bye:

Tbh the club had plenty of chance to brief the media into lowering expectations a touch. Talk of 100 million war chests, 100k (after tax) wages, and blue chip signings seems way off the mark.

Might have been useful if the club had briefed more towards a sustained push, built on gradual development, but they seemed happy for the media (and fans) to dictate the narrative.

There's been no briefing of the media against the thought of a war chest and £100,000 plus wages for two reasons.

(i) we had to make it know this was our intent and (ii) we've been out there trying to spend it on those marquee signings.

The problem has been getting the marquee signings to sign on the dotted line. At least twice we've got to the transfer altar only for deals not to conclude.

The question is why? It's not a question of resource, it's either the inability to sell the vision for the future or the fact that the vision expressed is too far from the current reality.

There's been no shortage of effort and that effort will still likely see at least one marquee signing but the truth is the compared to our competition where we stand today, as against where we will stand in a few years, is just an unnecessary risk for the level of player we sought and engaged with early in the summer.

It's not a question of lack of resource or the requirement to sell to buy which is a false premise brought about by those without full knowledge of the situation.

Surely we won't get to this position of strength down the line unless we take a risk or 2 on top players? I assume you mean monetary risk which is clearly contradictory to the resources point.

If we can't buy proper talent this summer then why sell stones if the wage benefits aren't gonna be utilised?

We are also engaging in a very competitve environment, both at home and abroad, in terms of attracting talent. Lots of clubs are equally resourced if not more so, but also have higher profiles, and regular European football. The club faces a massive task to build its profile, its not as simple as just buying Witsel or whoever, and that task starts for real tomorrow.

I think it's the bolded bit. Players want to play in CL and compete for throphies. Our current results are far from that, we haven't won anything since 95 and haven't been regulars in the CL.

Sadly I don't think the top players want to join in at the project stage when they can join a team already near the top (wistel situation for example: our goal for the future is to be in CL and compete for the title, juve is already doing this)

Europa league would even be a big help

I think as well something like a new stadium helps sell a dream.

Players will see West Ham's new stadium and want a piece of that, and these same people may not have done 12 months ago if they saw Upton Park.
