Bill Kenwright speech jf96

So a thread that starts out as an honest recognition of the gesture of our club's foremost ambassador towards the unimaginable grievance of our unfortunate neighbours becomes, through this final and wholly disproportionate response, the 'justice for Kever10' thread.

The irony is spectacular in how much this is lost on you.

The bit in his speech about leaving Villa Park elated and then the news started "trickling in" is exactly the experience I recall - I remember the journey home, 4 of us in the car, not one word spoken just listening to the radio as the death toll mounted.

When we got home we started phoning round the families we knew who had Liverpool fans at Hillsborough, one of our greatest family friends, their son never came home.

It was a great speech, as heartfelt as any of us could have made it, yes he was there as Chairman of our great club, but also just this once, as a football fan reflecting on his experience, one shared by so many of us.

Pretty well sums it up for me......

Honestly, if i could work out this thumbs up thing, that's what i'd be doing right now on this post

LOL

Everytime I watch this it gives me goosebumps

Proud to be blue and glad that my team hails from such a family and people orientated city as Liverpool. Always a welcome place to travel to.

Thoughts are with the families of the 96

Probably my favourite non footballing Everton moment. Beautifully simple, incredibly moving and thoughtful, just perfect in thought and execution.
Have to say Bills speech is pretty high up there as well. He came across very well, was quite funny and touching and struck a real chord with those that watched I think. He represented us in the best way possible today and he deserves credit for it.

i know this sounds bad, but anything he says i cant take him serious

that getting passed over the kop to his uncle made me cringe tbh.

im just happy the the 96 famillys are getting justice.

I think you need to sign off mate and find another forum

Totally agree. He is such a phoney, and everything he says makes me cringe as well. That was overly sentimental and such a pandering speech. He comes across as slimy and doesn't sound in the least bit genuine. The whole being carried over the kop sounds like the bull**** fairy tales that are passed on by them to make their history more legendary. And a fair way off the old "boys pen" stories he usually spouts.

Oh, and "The other place"? Really?

BEST... SALESMAN... EVER...

This is not a go at any Liverpool fans or families, this is not me being in any way against justice for the awful things that happened...

This is me being amazed how a few trite words from an insincere man can blind so many people.

The man is a self serving illusionist, and this is his best trick yet.

I wouldn't trust him if he told me it was Monday.

Another one who should sign off and go to another forum.

poignantly sums its up. is funny that for me it only just feels okay to talk about how horrible it was even if you weren't at Hillsborough itself. those phone calls were all done amid horrible tension and in days before mobiles was Monday before finding out everyone I knew was alive. the way the media and the rest then started to make you feel you were responsible just for going to the match. will never forgive them and if I had to make a speech like Bill did I would have struggled to be as gracious.

Bill Kenwright was speaking for Everton FC, which is very close to his heart. Many of those grieving relatives are Evertonians.

Why would there be any insincerity?

sadly think its just because he spoke eloquently that a few people mistake it for insincerity but as you say it was on behalf of all of us so was important it was

Nice speech by Bill. For those who cant take him serious then take it to another thread, there about 100000 threads about hating Bill in here anyway.
