I've just seen the speech, and it brought a tear to my eye and pulled on my strings. Not coming from Liverpool I don't know how much I can say which is meaningful but I thought BK was amazing, a great speech from the heart. He did the club proud.

Sorry Bryan, like i said, i wasn't intending to be insensitive. I was more agreeing with the original quote from Joe, who was shot down for saying he also felt Bill was insincere. I agreed, and said as much.

As for using the other threads, this was the Bill Kenwright speech thread wasnt it? I thought this was the appropriate place to respond.

I am totally appalled by the things that happened that day, and hope that all of the people involved get the Justice they deserve, but amongst all of the positive comments about Kenwright, i felt some balance was required, to reflect the thoughts of people he didn't impress.

Whatever one feels about Bill's stewardship of EFC, he is at least a man of his city.

And as such he can relate to the people here, Blue and Res alike, in a way that a Glazer, an Abramovich or a Mansoor could never relate to people of the cities of the clubs they own.

I was particularly moved by the remarks about how he felt like we had been relegated on his way home from Villa Park that day, following our victory in the other semi final.

I travelled back on a coach and there was a deathly hush as people listened to little transistor radios for news from Hillsborough.

There was not one one person on that coach full of Evertonians whom didn't have a family member, a mate, a neigbour or a work colleague in Sheffield and we were all worried for their safety.

I dont think LITTLE JOE or Kever10 are saying anything too outrageous, tbh. They're just making the point that Bill knows how to work a crowd. I dont think everything he said was sincere yesterday myself. He's an actor and we know through vast experience that he's well capable of hamming it up for a purpose. It just so happens that yesterdays purpose was to give 96 grieving families a bit of solidarity, which is why you have to accept it as a good thing at the end of the day.

This, really.

I'll freely admit I detest that lot over the park, with a passion. The thought of wearing a "halfy-halfy" shirt, scarf or whatever makes my skin crawl and joining arms, singing unified songs etc goes against so much of what I believe in.

But THAT occasion, back in the aftermatch when we had the home derby with the massive scarf, the unified stand etc - THAT was what was important. Forget any self-held beliefs, forget any football-based tribal stuff. Some things are bigger than that.

Bill might well be a bell at so many things, but on this occasion it was important for him to make the right noises. For the families. For that lot over the park - the ENTIRE LFC family. And for us, don't forget that. Not so we can score brownie points or receive pats on the back. But because it's important for us to support them - yes, them - in a dignified manner. Not OTT, but neither disprespectful. But in a way in which we'd hope others would stand with us should the shoe be on the other foot.

For my money, Bill got it spot-on. I'm grateful he did that on my behalf. I won't forgive him for all his other shortcomings, just like I won't become a fan of that lot over the park. But for once, it's time to time to suspend those feelings and just do the right thing in a quiet, measured and heartfelt manner to try to make their grief that bit easier. The rest will take care of itself again soon enough.

I don't know how the Thumbs-up works, but this sums it up for me.
