This is a downer, this thread, but still - the first Roberto season was massively exciting. The next two seasons were let downs, but the Semi Finals of the cup showed we were still doing ok. It was mixed after that, but like Koeman today, nobody could see a forward direction with Martinez in the 2nd and 3rd seasons. I think if we were playing exciting, erratic, losing football, but we were getting somewhere, he would have survived in 2016. Koeman has to show something!

He said 'biggest'

champions league summer and start was a massive let down, but at that point I expected no less from that clown kenwright, this season has to be up there more for me, because expectations are rightly a lot higher, I wanted to aim higher than Koeman as manager when we rightly got rid of roberto, and there was all talk of a new era, and we need to aim higher, but the reality is Koeman/Walsh have set us back a good few seasons

Degsy, mate, we've had some sensationally successful periods in and since 1960.

Sensationally short - don't get me wrong I was there in all the in between years too and due to the location, the company...and the ale it has to be said, I wouldn't have missed it for the world.
Some of the players, nay legends, I've seen it's been an honour and a privilege.

But

*In the manner of the old BBC tele printer marking time;.......54.....................63....66..........70....................................84, 85, 86? 87.................95..............................................................................................................................................................

But that's Everton...If you can't take a joke, you shouldn't have joined.

Not exactly recent times, but losing the league title and FA Cup to them during a single week in May 1986 is right up there with my biggest disappointments.

We could (and should) have won both ourselves but we blew it. Still remains a hugely painful memory.

Not completing the double against the Mancs and getting beat in the first Merseyside FA cup final, despite going in front and squandering chances to increase our lead.

Degsy,I was happy with your response until I got to the last line. I can take a joke, but I took what you said as what you seriously felt.

I became an Evertonian a few years before you, and in the late 1950s I was quite happy to look at the table in the Echo on Saturday night and see Everton 15th on the Div 1 table.
Things improved enormously when we started buying players - courtesy of John Moores - like Bobby Collins, Alex Parker, Roy Vernon and
Jimmy Gabriel.

We won trophies in 1963, 1966, 1970, 1984/5,1986/87 and 1995, but even in the years when we didn't win silverware we were
competing right at the top and had many, many great victories.

That's why I keep sticking on, because even when we aren't finishing on top, I still enjoy the victory's along the way.

I've had a lot of practice and I love being an Evertonian because of what it's given me for the last 60 odd years.
