Bigger and better squad then this time last season?

I don;t get that? Would you admire Moyes more if he came out and said we had made a **** up on transfers so could possibly start this season as badly as we did last?

You know why he said what he did about fitness levels as opposed to something along the lines of the above right?

But in the darkest moments of last summer he called things like that if you remember? He'd answer some reporter's question about the state of the squad and he'd tell them we weren't prepared for the new season. It's not that he's unwilling to call a spade a spade, it's that he cant ever stick to his view on money/transfers.

Moyes can be quite the Machiavelli when he wants to be, mate. I feel that it's all a game of brinkmanship over at the club at the moment, and all the parties are playing their political roles. But I do like Moyes, so I don't mean it in a negative way with him. I'm just trying to call it as I see it, without bias.

Maybe he thought those comments last year didn't help so is trying to be more diplomatic this time?

If anything, we are a tiny bit better than last year.

The thing is, teams around us are now much better than what they where last season (City, Spurs) so we need to be a lot better to even keep up with them.

We aren't good enough to get Europe at the moment in my opinion.

Jo has had a full pre-season and has looked sharp to me.....Baines surely will start the season with more confidence as will Gosling and Rodwell. Imo as a team we are stronger even allowing for the injuries , but on a squad basis I think we are sadly lacking and as the season gets into full swing we may suffer. Experienced squad players who can do a job would be the better option than untried teenagers.

Bigger? Not really.

Better? Not with our current injuries.

I just get the feeling that the lack of quality signings is getting to the players too, which is why they are so sub-par in the preseason games. We all saw the gap we needed to bridge in the last game of the season if we really have aspirations of competing with the sky 4, and the truth is that we have gone backwards while others have strengthened.

Lot of nonsense, Moyes already complained about the players attitude at Blackpool.

Down to to 2 fit CBs, right flank still a mess, no decent first team players signed up but players have left. So how is it better?(n)

About the only thing you can say is that Rodwell & Gosling are more developed from this time last year.

+ve

Jo
Rodwell & Gosling improved
Petelin, Mustafi, Garbutt
Vaughan more fit...

-ve

Lost Valente
Lost Castillo
Lost Jacobsen
Lost Shandy Andy
Arteta injured
Jags injured
Yakubu still not fully fit

Say what you will about the players who have left, but they were all experienced players who could come in and do a job, and have done at various times.

We have not improved the first team at all apart from Jo, and with the injuries it is actually much weaker than at the same time last year.

Overall, the negatives massively outweight the positives at this time.

Well I'd hope Baxter and Wallace are also able to make more of a contribution. IF we get 2-3 more players in before the transfer window closes then our situation will be looking very healthy. Yes we have injuries, but at what point last season didn't we have players injured ?
