Bigger and better squad then this time last season?

Maybe, mate. But privately Hughes is almost certainly panicking, and he's made a piss-poor job of sorting his defence out. Let's see how he's fixed just before the window slams shut.

They have got some decent defenders to be honest. I watched them the other day vs Celtic, they wont even need defenders mate, they will just crush teams.

We're better equipped for the new season than last season, we looked boss against Malaga. Off the top of my head I think we started against Blackburn last year with:

Howard
Neville Yobo Lescott Valente
Arteta Jagielka Rodwell Baines
Osman
Yakubu

With a bench full of kids and uncertainty over Moyes' contract. I'd much rather have the side that started against Malaga:

Howard
Hibbert Neville Lescott Baines
Osman Cahill Rodwell Pienaar
Fellaini
Saha

With Moyes well settled, Yobo bound to be ready for the Arsenal game and a bench that includes proper options like Jo, Vaughan, Gosling and (in the relatively near future) the Yak.

I feel fine about this season. We already have a good team. We will sign some players, atleast one or two of whom will turn out to be good additions. Our stability and team-spirit will carry us in the mean time. I reckon 1-1 against Arsenal.

Brings a tear to ones eye all this.........Roll on the 15th(y)

Oh dear. Oh dear oh dear oh dear.

With every passing day and another interview from Moyes stating what our problems are and what needs to be done i get more and more fed up.

Less talk more action for gods sake.

I've had enough. I'm joining Davek and Goat.

We ain't got any worse no but when the manager of a team in our position comes out with that crap in the media, more excuses about why we haven't signed anyone (i guess they used the blame other people lines last year) so this year its because the players are either too expensive, want too higher wages or aren't good enough. Thats why we can't sign the players we need. Just like we needed them last summer before we scraped through the season by the skin of our teeth.

It really sucks to see this club have to make statements like that in the media. I'm not gonna blame anyone or point fingers cause that will achieve nothing but i thought this was gonna be the season where we fight to get in the Champions League places, where we fight to better ourselves because we had the squad to do so.

Instead it looks like we are gonna fight with everything we have just to end up where we started from.

Good choice. We are in a happier place here.

We are hoping to play 38 League games, 7-8 Carling games, 7-8 FA Cup games and 18+ Europa League Games.

We have :

3 GKs - only 1 of which is any good.

7 Defenders - 1 of which is injured for a while, 1 of which will be going to the ANC, 1 who is 17 and another with not 1 Prem game played.

9 Midfielders - 1 injured, 3 youngsters and 1 unkown.

9 Strikers - 3 Quality, 6 youngish payers.

The team is very unbalanced. In my view we dont have the required quality, depth or balance to sustain a long and successful season.

14 of the squad are 21 or under.

Moyes said: 'We are not ready as far as the squad goes, we want more players in. We let a few go in the summer - Andy van der Meyde, Lars Jacobson, Nuno Valente - and we have not replaced any of those players yet.

'If we want a run in Europe we need more players quickly. The search goes on, it has never stopped all summer and I am feeling a bit demented with it all now!

'Apart from a couple of clubs, the transfer activity around the country has been limited. But for us, to have finished fifth and reached a cup final, to improve on that costs a lot of money.

'But we don't have that money. So trying to find players who are cheap, don't want much wages and will come here to improve us, well, it is not easy.'
So far, Moyes has only brought in Brazilian striker Jo on loan from Manchester City and a clutch of untried youngsters who will be in the reserve squad.

He remains hopeful of a positive outcome in his bid for Arsenal defender Philippe Senderos, although the clubs are believed to be still some way from agreeing a fee.

There seems to be a lot of ongoing searching going on by various people at Everton yet they never seem to find what they are looking for.

Maybe Bill and Dave can pop down there some day. If they can find it.

I had misgivungs quite some way back on signing anyone decent. We just seemed to be doing very little in pre window preparation. I think too much was staked on getting Naughton.

They'll still tell you your wrong.

We can't be negative, yet the 2nd Davey is "Oh 'kin ell, I 100% agree".

Big difference is lads other clubs sign players, we make players, in a lot of respects doesnt matter who or how many we sign. Key is the Moyes regime, coaching, development, progression - the Everton or rather Moyes way. Who going to bet agaisnt Moyes signing Senderos for 4mill and turning him into a 25mill defender? Not me.

Spurs, Pompey, Newcastle, City, West Ham, Sunderland, Fulham, Villa - What do they all have in common? cited as teams season on season going to overtake us by throwing money around signing players - hasnt happened yet.

Like i say Everton make players other clubs sign players.

Still not worried!
