It's the same thing though, JEBUS. It is a method of circumventing the political process, and that's what Thatcher did. I was on the Merseyside Committee of the union at the time, and we got the 'inside track' of all that was going on far more than the general public. It was an unmitigated attack on ordinary trade union members, with no foundation in fact whatsoever.
While similar, it's not quite the same, as council is sought on the legality and you make a decision based on the balance of law and a potential ruling.

The order in council has a common law and legislative grounding, so subject to 'legal review'.

Basically, Thatcher did it that way so that it was not common knowledge by going through the Parliamentary process. Do you think the Council would go against her wishes? Come on, be serious...

Yes, but if she has an automatic right to citizenship, then the UK is not making her stateless by law

I think the If bit is the key , im not going to do a RS Suarez bit and pretend to know the ins and outs of everything because I don’t . All the lawyers I’ve heard , without exception, say that that isn’t the case as do Bangladesh. I’m not saying they’re right but given that Javid is prone to shameless careerist moves I think it could easily be the case .

That’s without dealing with the two actual dual nationals, interestingly from Bangladesh, who won their appeals on the basis that suspicion wasn’t enough .

You're arguing against your own point here. If you want more safeguard against this type of activity, as we all should, then the ruling yesterday is not a good one.

Spot on.

Seems mad though to me that corbyn is being pilliored for his opinion whilst JRM spoke about having sympathy for her and that she was a child when she went but doesn’t seem to have got anywhere near the same stick .

Corbyn could deliver a baby on the street and save the mothers life, and he’d get criticised for adding to the welfare bill.

I was sent to jail. It got out on appeal. Basically the probation service spent years with me, they knew my upbringing and that I was a victim of circumstance, hence my second chance belief.
I think she also should be given an opportunity to start again.

If she got back, she deserves an extremely long sentence. But I doubt our justice system would give her that. I'm not sure the punishment would fit her crime. Joining isis is about as serious as it gets.

Joining as an adult and killing people is but joining as a child and quite probably just cooking for and bumming a baddy is not so serious. Until I hear she did otherwise I will treat her as an idiot not fully fledged criminal

I'm not arguing against anything. Simply pointing out what happened in the 1980s when a PM wanted to railroad something through...
