I've said in the past on transfer cash that we need to dissect Moyes' warchest whilst here. Between 2002 and 2009 he had a net spend of £30M+ - not elite levels of spending, but defo a tidy sum for that period. From 2009 on to the time he left in 2013 he was complicit in a firesale of players that made his overall net spend for the 2002-2013 period look atrocious.

In short: he had the means early on to find and bring on great talent. He didn't though, and the truth is he wanted players he could dominate rather than sparkle on the pitch.

If you're counting that as a 7 year period then it's an average net spend per season of £4m. If you're counting it as 8 years it's between £3m-£4m.

How is that a tidy sum, even in that era?

Because he's handling cash of enormous magnitude for the period: Rooney's sale was a rip off but still substantial. He also saw the lions share of the £50M securitization deal.

He's had player trading cash plus £35M on top in that earlier period.

the Craig Bellamy fiasco is a good example of this, everything was apparently sorted out then Moyes made his list of rules and that was that. Makes you think he didn't want him
