Fletch

Player Valuation: £5m
OK, is it just me, but apart from the penalty and the twice clearing the line, I thought Baines was poor yesterday.

A yard behind their winger all the time and let them in down the byline on a few occasions. Seems again they targetted that side, I think Moyes will sell him come January, not big enough for the Prem for my liking.

Am I being harsh ?

i agree fletch, good going forward, a few lucky clearances but his positioning is brutal. cross came from his side for both goals, he was no where to be seen

Their first was criminal defending, the guy that scored ran yards without any attempt to pick him up.

He's a full back of the modern mould and likes to get forward, the problem is he's often left chasing back and out of position when we get attacked.

He's got the talent, but maybe his enthusiasm gets the better of him sometimes and he's caught out of position.

He's got serious talent but needs a run of games. He keeps getting dropped for no reason.

That's the way I see it. Its been almost a season since he actually had a string of games. He's another that needs a good run before we can start the lynching.

And to be honest those two goal line stops (especially the 2nd) are enough for me to say he had a solid game. Saved our blushes. Oh and he got a peno too.

and therein lies the problem in not replacing Carsley.

someone who will just sit in front of the back 4 and take care of things like this.

Your right there, he does get dropped for no apparent reason, which would seem to indicate that Moyes is not convinced in him or he doesnt exactly follow instructions to the T.

When I saw the title of this post I thought it would be a thread on how well he played not how poorly. He was critisized for the first goal. Erm, he was up the field supporting Yakubu, who promptly fluffed his lines thus providing a clear run up the right flank.

Likewise for the second goal, Baines had his man. The player that broke free was Pienaars and it was due to him not tracking back all the way with him that he was allowed the freedom to pick out Duff.

But I suppose apart from the assists for both our goals and the two goal line clearances he did nothing to contribute to the result.

Hes a great little player and tried his guts out yesterday i have always been a fan. Manyof us cirtiise Hibbert and Neville for not having quality going forward.

Ha ha i bet if Baines played the way he did yesterday at right back everyone would be calling him our new saviour we are a funny lot! i will concede he tired toward the end and space was found in behind him but we were chasing the game and that happens. His understanding and play with Pienaar was fantastic and led to both goals, how many other full back can we say influence a game like that or like himm he is a little gem. Oh nice to have an alternative to cross delivery, i didnt know what to do when one of our crosses made it into the box, i think our stirkers had the same reaction:lol:
