Baines

He's a good little player, that is quite obvious to be honest. Excellent on the ball, pacy and a good left foot. He's one of the best attacking fullbacks in the Prem on his day.

Defensively I've never been convinced, I think he backs off far too much and gives wingers alot of space. I think given a run of games though he'd improve in this area and he'd be able to work on his deficiencies.

He's worth a go, the talent is there. It's just about getting him bedded into the side.

When I saw the title of this post I thought it would be a thread on how well he played not how poorly. He was critisized for the first goal. Erm, he was up the field supporting Yakubu, who promptly fluffed his lines thus providing a clear run up the right flank.

Likewise for the second goal, Baines had his man. The player that broke free was Pienaars and it was due to him not tracking back all the way with him that he was allowed the freedom to pick out Duff.

But I suppose apart from the assists for both our goals and the two goal line clearances he did nothing to contribute to the result.

Spot on! You took the words out of my mouth. I thought that yesterday it was clear how good a player Baines is when he has a good left-sided midfielder in front of him.

Baines had a good game yesterday, no doubt. MOM the match by some distance. Hopefully his confidence will improve by this performance. Always liked Leighton, even when he was at Wigan. Was very satisfied when he signed for Everton. Had a tough time at Everton uptill now, but the lad undoubtedly has class. Hope he'll be able to reignite his career at Everton, as he can become a very good player.

He just needs a good run of games. The lad is Everton through and through. He wants the best for us because he's one of us. Too many people give him negative rep. I think he's sound but maybe if anything he's a bit light weight. He's never had the good run to prove himself but he has got talent no doubt about that (y)

yeah, well, apart from roads, sanitation, two goal line clearances and two assists, what have the romans ever done for us?

Perhaps I'm being harsh, but second half down the touchline Moyes was screaming at him, perhaps Moyes was putting him off but he was struggling for position, at one point Saha tracked the winger back until Baines had got back, the guy still got through though.

Maybe he had no passing options, maybe Moyes screaming down his neck wasn't helping the uncertainty.

I will reserve judgment for a few more games but I think he will go if not January then the summer.

You mean he won the pen which we scored from, it was his brilliant cross that we scored from, he cleared off the line in the first half and a brilliant match saving clearance of the line in the second half?

drop him!
