Bad ref decisions - for and against - season 2025/26

Don’t think we can argue with the decisions, even the red for Keane, although harsh. Perhaps a yellow, never violent conduct but you can see what stupid var has seen and why they have told him to overturn his non-decision.

Grealish was a dope, end of.
You can definitely argue the red as it seems to have been given in violation of the law of the sport. They were challenging for the ball and there was no excessive force or violent intent.

THIS is a hair pull.. no action taken...

No, Cristian Romero was not booked for pulling an opponent's hair at the time the incident occurred.
The incident in question occurred in August 2022 during a Premier League match between Tottenham and Chelsea, where Romero pulled the hair of Chelsea defender Marc Cucurella.
  • On-field Decision: The referee, Anthony Taylor, did not call a foul.
  • VAR Decision: The Video Assistant Referee (VAR), Mike Dean, reviewed the incident but did not deem it a red card offense or recommend a pitchside review. Play continued, and Tottenham scored a crucial equalizer from the resulting corner kick.
  • Aftermath: The decision caused significant controversy. Mike Dean later admitted he made a mistake and that he should have recommended a review, which would likely have resulted in a red card for Romero for violent conduct and a free-kick for Chelsea.
  • No Retrospective Action: Because the VAR officially looked at the incident at the time, no retrospective action or booking could be issued after the match.

Wow… it’s almost as though because we have a badge they don’t like, they penalise only us

No ones expected to get their hair pulled on a football field

Kin hell. You're going on like he's been shot.
If the on field ref see's that its a yellow card offence. Red if its a really violent pull. But you're talking proper drag him to the ground.
What we've got now is a group of wanna be famous refs who can not wait to get involved because it makes them the centre of attention. Its every game. Look at me. We are here and we can stop the game. It kills them not pressing the button sitting in that portakabin or whatever they're in.
Never met a ref down the years who wasnt obsessed with being the person in charge. Now they've been handed VAR. Christ give it another few months and scratching your arse will be pulled up as obscene on field gestures.
How can that be violent and studs down the calf not lol.
Its fkd up.

Yeah, but accidents happen. It's a contact sport. There's a difference if there is malicious intent, but this is clearly accidental.
I thought it looked pretty much on purpose. Grabs and gives a yank.

I do think it's a soft red and more of a yellow in my view but I really can't see it as anything other than on purpose. He very specifically gets a handful of hair and yanks it.

Anything looks deliberate in slow motion. And it wasn’t violent conduct, so at most yellow.

VAR only has the power to intervene for red card offenses and this is a soft yellow never mind a red. Are we gonna start sending players off who miss the ball and header their opponent for “violent conduct?”

we never complain about anything, thought the red for Keane was very harsh yet I expect us to just drop our kecks and meekly accept it, we are the footballing equivalent of the perfect cuckold. Grealish had lost his head, but Moyes should have saw that and substituted him, yet a few weeks ago VVD done exactly the same sarcastically applauded the ref, yet no yellow card, what's the difference, for me the badge.
The ref didn't call this, it was a var call, have a guess who, Chris Kavanagh another ref who I feel has an eternal grudge against us along with Pawson, we should complain about these two especially, remember Clattenburg went years before he refereed against us again.

All teams get poor decisions, but it's hard to overlook that we barely get a single penalty per season despite VAR and many instances of poor challenges - don't get me started on red cards either for or against.

Really surprised the Keane Red has split opinion. Lots saying today pulling is instantly violent conduct and red. Factually wrong, that’s only the case if not challenging for the ball.

Since they were challenging, it just falls under the normal decision of was it or wasn’t it a foul. Personally I would say no, as you can put both arms round a player and wrestle them as long as you let go at the right time (bizarre). But wouldn’t have been bothered if he’d given a free kick at all. As long as applied consistently, great, give them a free kick and tell Keane to keep his hands down. No issue.

Don’t think the argument is whether he deliberately or accidentally had hold of his hair for 0.8 seconds. The issue is the ref has been TOLD to apply the instant “hair pulling is violent conduct” rule incorrectly by the puddings 200 miles away. He visibly completely bottled looking at the incident and pushing back on their incorrect suggestion.

The Hwang thing just makes the entire sport a farce when you have those 2 incidents within a matter of minutes and consider the 2 different outcomes from VAR/ref. It’s become pointless watching unless you have the money to just blow teams out of sight, then these “mistakes” don’t matter to you.

I genuinely don’t remember the last time a team against us got a red. Despite the fact we’ve had multiple awful challenges aganst us, and multiple second yellow offences against us

Anyone who thinks Keane's offense isn't a red card is living in an alternate dimension. Seriously? You don't think he can tell the difference in feel between a shirt and some hair, that he wrapped his hand the whole way round and pulled? You think he did that by accident?? I've been playing football (organised leagues and friendly kickabouts) for 40 years, and never once accidently wrapped my hand fully around someone's hair and pulled it. Sometimes I wonder if people commenting on here have ever played football. Today I have to question if some of you actually live on this planet. Completely delusional.
Ive been involved in Football in 3 countries. My son plays professionaNever seen such a disgraceful decision. With VAR you can engineer decisions depending on the agenda.

True but when i was younger i hated playing with geezers having fanny haircuts swinging everywhere im totally on Keane’s side. In fact stupid haircuts should be banned…
