Current Affairs Australian Bush Fires

Apparently due to a Green Initiative, residents have been banned from creating "Fire Breaks", in the off season.

I have also seen the news that there have been almost 200 arrests for arson, and that over 85% of the fires are caused by man, either deliberately or accidently. Why wouldn't this be true? This is the cause of most fires anyway.

'Apparently' 'I have seen' some stupid comments in my time, but you take the cake buddy.

You have your opinion, I have mine. I don't resort to personal insults.

Is that not sort of backing my original point up? The graph shows that the average temperature has risen 1.2 degrees in 140 years. I have also asked why they are only showing data for a couple of hundred years. Is it because going back further would go against the narrative of "this is all our fault"?

Because the data has only been reliably recorded for a couple of hundred years.

No! It is showing the definite link to man and global warming. Nothing more nothing less.

I can tell you are one of those posters that will totally ignore any evidence, no matter how hard, in order to maintain your stance.

Also, the point of the graph is it is showing the period when man has been creating the emissions that ARE causing global warming.

Just to ask, if you think it is NOT a man made phenomena, do you think we should just carry on burning fossil fuels, intensive farming etc?

Yep, you're probably right and the largest bushfires on record, longest droughts on record, biggest heatwaves on record, extreme cyclones, floods, melting icecaps etc all happening in the last few years is just a coincidence. Thanks for clearing that up ;)

There has always been heatwaves, floods, and extreme cyclones. This isn't new. The bush fires have been made worse, because of the policy of the firebreaks. The planet maybe warming, but it is nothing we are doing. It is a cycle. It heats up and cools down all the time. The data we are seeing is showing the planet has been getting slightly warmer for the last 200 years - it suits the narrative. The graphs are set up in such a way that it looks as though the temperature is going through the roof, when in reality is has risen by just over 1 degree. What were the average temperatures 500, 1500, 5000, 100,000 years ago?

Not one scaremongering prediction has been true. What happened to the 1 billion climate refugees? What happened to the coastal cities being under water? What happened to the world wide famine due to crop failure? None of these thing have happened. The world won't be ending in ten years - it's just more scaremongering, using bad data.

The weather hasn't changed at all since I was born. 1976 (the ladybirds) was the "hottest year on record" until 2018. What about the 42 years in between? It was all just average. Some were hot and some weren't.

I mentioned earlier that that we should be doing something about our emissions etc. It is not good for the environment. So we agree on that. I do not believe it is causing global warming. That is where we differ.

That all sounds reasonable, you've won me over. Some blinding science in that post. ;)

Because the data has only been reliably recorded for a couple of hundred years.

Yet they can tell us the weather patterns going back millions of years, by taking samples from Antarctica.

Also - In all honesty - Do you think the instruments used in 1850 are in anyway comparable to the instruments we have at our disposal now? There is no comparison. We are finding things out about the weather we were oblivious to in the 19th century. Do you not think that it makes look as though these things are all just happening now, when in reality, they've always been happening. We just didn't know about them.

Actually, just one quick question. How do you know the earth has always warmed up and cooled down? I'm guessing you aren't half a million years old, so just wondering how you know.

I am not quite half a million years old (although it feels like it sometimes, supporting this team).

Ice ages?
