Attending the Dallas Cup this week

We will be getting the inside track from every day of the young Blues' Dallas Cup 2015 tour. Today it's the turn of winger Nathan Holland, who talks us through matchday one and his hopes for the rest of the competition.

We were up a little later on Saturday morning with the match being at 6.30pm local time.

We had breakfast and then had time to relax - I had a couple of lads in my room and we just chilled out and listened to music before the pre-match meeting in the afternoon.

I like listening to music before a match - it helps me get in the right frame of mind. I mainly listen to rap and I was listening to Drake and J. Cole before the game.

We travelled to the stadium in the afternoon and we got a very warm welcome from all the fans at the Cotton Bowl Stadium. To be honest, I was quite shocked at just how many people were there.

We went out on to the pitch just before the opening ceremony and there was a great atmosphere - I think it really got us up for the game.

I came off the bench early in the second half. I think it was a good game to come in to, obviously we were 1-0 down so I tried to create chances which I think I did and I possibly could have scored myself.

We got it back to 1-1 with Kieran Dowell’s goal and, from there, I thought we could go on and win it but it wasn’t to be.

We’ve just got to move on as quickly as possible now, we don’t want dwell on the first game because we have a big game against LA Galaxy on Monday.

We need to focus on that because we need to try and win our next two games to help us qualify.

Tbh it was the way my stream was jumping at the start of the first half that really got me, still haven't seen our goal properly! At least it is better than following a match on twitter or mbm. Wish Everton had done a radio commentary though.

Missed part of the build up, but Dowell got the ball on the left side of the box and started to move it towards the center of the field; when he got space on the defender he stuck it in the top of the far corner. Wasn't a rocket like the last goal by River Plate, but it was well taken.

These got beat by some Japanese team in the first game. Got to win this and then winner takes all in the last game and we never bottle stuff like that. Come on Everton.

Tbf quite a few of ours have already played this week - Ledson, Kenny, Davies, Connolly were all involved for 90 mins with England earlier in the week before flying out. Tough for 18 year olds to play two hard games, especially with the travel and difference in temps.

River Plate are also the defending champions.

I believe from my "Gallina" mates here in Bs As that they had players eligible for the Everton game in Dallas playing over the weekend in world cup qualifying games at under 17 and under 20 level in South America.

Rivers youth system is amazing.

The have affiliate clubs that train kids from 6 years of age all over the country and the best ones get sent to Buenos Aires. I live 60km north of Buenos Aires and the affiliates of both River and Boca are really strong in the area even though neither are the local club (Tigre).

A huge help is that most of the kids play street football and are really, really impressive on the ball.
