Was thinking that River Plate were going to be the tough ones in the group but they got beaten today 3-1 by Ryutsu Keizai. Ryutsu also beat LA Galaxy 3 - 0 so looks like we have a difficult last match to qualify as River will be playing Galaxy

Paul Tait has hailed the character of his Everton Under-19s squad after their 3-0 victory over LA Galaxy on Monday evening.

The young Blues provided an emphatic response to their opening day Dallas Cup defeat against River Plate with an assured performance over their US opponents.

And manager Tait believes the win was testament to his side’s character after less than 24 hours to prepare for the game.

“It was very satisfying,” he told evertontv. “Obviously, we wanted to bounce back after our opening game the night before and we had spoken to the lads about getting a good start and putting pressure on them which we did.

“They knew what they had to do today, they went out there with a really good attitude and produced a big performance.

“They had to dig deep because it was tough on the lads who had played the night before on a massive pitch and some of them were dead on their feet - but they dug in and showed some real grit and resilience, as well as scoring three good goals.”

The Toffees now turn their attentions towards the final group game against current leaders Ryutsu-Keizai University on Wednesday 1 April.

Tait’s side know they need another three points against the Japanese outfit, with each group winner going through to the semi-finals, as well as the best runner-up from the three groups.

“The third goal could prove to be massive because it will probably go down to goal difference if we go on to win our last game,” he added.

“The lads are full of confidence and they’re really happy [with the win against LA Galaxy].

“We’ll have a light training session [on Tuesday] and we’re also visiting a local children’s hospital. But the lads will get plenty of rest to recharge their batteries and give them chance to get ready for Wednesday.”

Ryan Ledson is targeting a place in the Dallas Cup semi-finals after helping Everton Under-19s record a 3-0 win over LA Galaxy on Monday.

Kieran Dowell opened the scoring, before Ledson, who was captaining the young Blues, added a second with a sublime finish on nine minutes.

The 17-year-old midfielder says he was delighted to net on American soil after working on the same routine in training.

“It’s a very good result for the lads and we needed it after the defeat [against River Plate] yesterday,” he told evertontv.

“The coaches said we needed to get out of the blocks quickly and I thought we did that. [Michael Donohue] has come up with a great run for Kieran [Dowell] to head it in.

“Then, I’ve scored a good goal as well which got us off to a good start. We spoke about the move in the meeting before the game.

“We didn’t think they would leave anyone on the edge of the box, and, obviously, Kieran has played it and I’ve come on the end of it - luckily enough it’s gone in.”

After joining the group later following international duty with England Under-18s, Ledson says he is thoroughly enjoying the Dallas Cup experience so far.

He added: “It was a good week away with England and then to come over and meet up with the lads over here has been brilliant.

“I’ve got two games under my belt already and I’m feeling good.

“It’s great over here - there is great scenery, lovely weather and the lads are loving it over here. We are confident and hopefully we can progress in the tournament.”

Everton Under-19s kept themselves in contention to qualify from the Dallas Cup group stages with a thoroughly deserved 3-0 victory over LA Galaxy on Monday evening.

The young Blues got off to a lightning quick start as Kieran Dowell notched his second goal in as many days, before Ryan Ledson clipped home to make it 2-0 inside 10 minutes.

Paul Tait’s side continued to dominate proceedings into the second half and eventually notched a third via Delial Brewster after neat work by Nathan Holland in second half stoppage time.

The victory leaves the Toffees second in the group with one game to play, knowing the winner of each of the three groups qualifies plus the best runner-up.

Looking for a response after slipping to a defeat against River Plate less than 24 hours previously, Everton meant business from the first whistle.

The industrious Michael Donohue beat his marker with less than a minute on the clock, but the winger’s deep cross was cleared with Calum Dyson lurking.

Donohue went one better on six minutes, providing a similar cross for Dowell to nod hod home at the far post to open the scoring.

A second followed less than three minutes later and it came via a move straight off the training ground.

Dowell turned provider, sliding his corner to the edge of the box for skipper Ledson to expertly divert the ball over the goalkeeper and into the stanchion to double the advantage.

Not content with two, the Blues went in search of a third and it nearly came on 13 minutes.

Jordan Thorniley’s flicked header found Jonjoe Kenny, who improvised well to release a shot that required a last-gasp clearance.

Everton continued to control the game in the second half, restricting their opponents to only half-sights at goal.

Galaxy, however, eventually managed to manufacture a clear opening with 15 minutes remaining - but goalkeeper Mateusz Hewelt pulled off an outstanding save from point-blank range to keep the two-goal lead intact.

The young Blues continued to look the more likely in the closing stages and were buoyed by the introduction of the lively Holland.

The 16-year-old provided a cross for Kenny, who could only fire wide at the back post.

Kenny then provided a superb ball over the Galaxy defence to release Delial Brewster, but the striker could only shoot wide after being sent through on goal.

Curtis Langton also went close with his first meaningful touch, but his right-footed effort whizzed narrowly over the crossbar.

The third eventually came with virtually the last kick of the game as Holland beat his marker before finding Brewster, who made no mistake in drilling home into the bottom right corner.

The final group game against Japanese outfit Ryutsu-Keizai University FC will take place on Wednesday 1 April at 2pm local time (8pm GMT).

That Brewster will be worth millions one day.

WAAAAAYY

Just for you @ijjysmith

We will be getting the inside track from every day of the young Blues' Dallas Cup 2015 tour. Today it's the turn of striker Delial Brewster, who talks us through matchday two - which saw the Under-19s record a 3-0 win over LA Galaxy.

After our game against River Plate, we got up early and had breakfast before going back up to our rooms to chill out for a bit. I had a quick sleep because I was still tired after the match.

Once I was back awake, I went for a nice walk to get my legs going. Then there was the pre-match meeting and we found out our team to face LA Galaxy. I wasn't starting but that didn't bother me because we're in this as a team.

After that we had our lunch and headed to Richmond College. We didn't have long to warm up, but that didn't seem to affect us performance-wise.

It was a smaller pitch than against River Plate and I think that suited us more. We played better even though the grass was long, which made it hard to run with the ball and pass it along the floor. We had to fizz the passes.

I was pleased to come on and I knew I could do a job. I had a few chances to score and could have had a few, but I was happy to get one in the end. We may need that goal if it comes down to goal difference to get out of the group.

After a game, I like to rest, get in a cold pool and do some stretches. Then it's a warm bath and an early night for me!

....I'm assuming Ryutsu are Japanese. I appreciate they have done very well and are probably very fit and well organised but I would hope that our youngsters have enough about them to get a result.
