The rise of conservative media and their assault on anything objective in news media presentation dates back to the 1940s. See Human Events magazine which began in 1944 (I think), Henry Regnery and William F. Buckley, Jr in the 1950s, Barry Goldwater's 1964 campaign openly attacking journalist's objectivity as a mask for their liberal bias, Edith Efron's "scientific" book The News Twisters which became a NYT bestseller in the late 1960s because Nixon and friends bought shedloads of copies and in the 1970s the rise of Point/Counterpoint on 60 Minutes as well as radio programs that began to be specifically devoted to conservative political points of view.

Then we got Ronald Reagan and Pandora's Box was fully opened.

This is almost true for me as well, with one exception that I was very proud of. To my IMMENSE satisfaction, my mom voted for him in 2016 and didn’t double down this year. She absolutely can’t stand him at this point.

On a personal level, I only know of one of my friends/family who voted for trump in 2016 but Biden in 2020. And he’s a rich republican

Same here. Any of my friends and family who have wealth voted for Biden and not their party's nominee in this election.

Those who don't have a pot to pee in like you said doubled down. Those who are blue collar and working class stuck to their guns on Trump.

I‘d could have more respect for these types if they could also admit that the GOP is chock full of white supremacist and bigots of all sorts.

Oh, he does. He simply still votes for Republicans because of that literal one stance. It makes me feel like I'm having a stroke sometimes because he's like, legit anti-racist and pretty rational about a lot of things.

Well, I bow to your experience, seeing I don't live there. And I'm not being sarcastic. So my question then is, why would they stay with Trump when he was so clearly unfit for the job?

One word: ignorance. And "the ignorance of one voter in a democracy impairs the security of all."

I feel no pity for her, but on a more general level it is quite sad that her life is ruined by a baseless conspiracy, in the same sense that tons of lives have been ruined by scientology and other cults.

I feel the same way for the Trump supporters that stormed the capitol. Like that swimming olympic former champion that turned himself yesterday, his life will never be the same. So I don't feel pity because they made a very bad choice. But I ca't help but feel sad for the many lives that are currently being ruined. These people allow themselves to believe the lie of an stolen election and risk their livelihoods because of Trump's lies.

My point was not about him winning or losing but about the probability that the same people probably voted for him twice......
