Well, I bow to your experience, seeing I don't live there. And I'm not being sarcastic. So my question then is, why would they stay with Trump when he was so clearly unfit for the job?
Because he hates the same people they do. And tells it like it is. And for my rich friends, the taxes. Even the poor ones

I’m not joking. And this is why I’m pessimistic and why I say it’s right wing media that has caused this- particularly for the working class

I can see where you're coming from. What, in your opinion, came first -- the rise of the likes of Fox News or the election of Trump? And would those media outlets have been able to push the same agenda -- or as hard -- had the Republicans nominated a more intelligent candidate?

Fox News, by at least a decade. Without Trump, they might not have leaned as hard into the racial grievance, but the socialism fear mongering was going to happen no matter what. A man with a family of 4 and a sub-$50k total household income, $500 in the bank and no retirement savings being afraid Democrats are coming to redistribute their “wealth” is one of the most absurd things I’ve ever heard. Yet it’s not an uncommon mindset.

Oh god the rise of Fox News happened first. It all started with Rush Limbaugh in the early 90s. Then Fox, then social media was gasoline

Trump was a creation 30 years coming

Absolutely real. Sales are crushing it; the first wave started with the impending pandemic back in March and it continued with the George Floyd protests, and then after the election results started coming in they continued to go higher.
What could possibly go wrong in telling the worlds most heavily armed civilian population that an election was fraudulently stolen

The problem is nuanced. My friend voted for Trump literally because he thinks the debt is getting too high and it's decreasing the value of his wages he takes home. Nothing else mattered to him. Not the racism, not the rhetoric, not the absolute destruction of the government, not the environment.

Republicans have such a massive hard-on for being "single issue" voters it's hard to get through to any of them.

I‘d could have more respect for these types if they could also admit that the GOP is chock full of white supremacist and bigots of all sorts.

Maybe doing what Trump(obvs), Obama, Bush and Clinton ignored for years might be a good start? They refused to say that there was a radical right wing/white nationalistic part of the country and it was the single biggest threat because it is. Antifa isn't a threat, BLM isn't a threat, "Progressives" aren't a threat. Racist backward thinking idiots who have no issues killing anyone is the threat.
I concur with your opinion. Previous presidents and our government have been to shy to discuss the radicalization of the far right. Just recently several government agencies were saying that white nationalistic groups and radicals from the far right were a more dire threat to our country than terrorist from abroad. So our country needs to have this conversation. Improving education and media literacy for everyone is also a much needed approach.

The removal of the FCC Fairness Doctrine in 87-88....somewhere around there.
