I think Ashley Young would be a good signing for a club where we're currently at.

After 5 or so games he will be one of many fans fav players, people will love him.

Every set of fans has, he is a damn good player.

His age is a little worry, but he has not cost a fee.....so lets get behind him.

I can remember signing nigel martyn at 37 and the moans and groans signing someone that age. That went quiet very quickly.
One glance at this current squad and i'll take anynone who improves it for the upcoming season only. Does ashley young? 100% he does.

Difference between signing an older keeper than an outfield player though.

Keepers don’t generally peak until later than outfield players, and aren’t usually reliant on pace, which is something young is renowned for (not saying he isn’t good at other things but pace has been a big part of his game).

I’m also not saying Young won’t improve the squad, he will, and on a year contract it makes sense. I just don’t think comparing keepers and outfield players works.

Still think this is a perfectly okay signing personally 🤷‍♂️
Yeah, other then the possible cost of signing on fee and Wages, the lad could actually surprise us this year. ( Compared to what we've been dealing with in those positions )
It is only a year, just to get us to BMD.

You never know, we could just be getting our Maupay signing out the way first, so it hopefully gets forgotten as we move on to other Targets.
The likeliness of that happening, not very realistic. But if that's how it played out then I wouldn't end up complaining to much with this signing...

We've been serious relegation candidates the last two seasons - skin of teeth stuff. Anyone thinking there's not a very high probability of us being there again is mad.

Finances ultimately keep you in this league. Therefore, given our lack of finances, the question is, do players like Ashley Cole make us stronger and improve our chances of staying up?

You be the judge of that but judge it by that metric and nothing else as top 10 finishes and dreams of Europe etc are a while off until this mess is fixed and a new board installed.

Ashley Cole got sacked with that loser/fraud of a manager we had.
