Transfer Rumour Ashley Young

We've been serious relegation candidates the last two seasons - skin of teeth stuff. Anyone thinking there's not a very high probability of us being there again is mad.

Finances ultimately keep you in this league. Therefore, given our lack of finances, the question is, do players like Ashley Cole make us stronger and improve our chances of staying up?

You be the judge of that but judge it by that metric and nothing else as top 10 finishes and dreams of Europe etc are a while off until this mess is fixed and a new board installed.
Ashley Cole retired years ago mate.

villa did well to squeeze out the last bit of juice from him, but were also savvy enough to know that they didn't want the pith.

i get the argument that it's just a year and that he adds some depth to the squad, but i'd rather see the money spent on his wages invested elsewhere.

We need some good professionals in this team, the type that are in the refs ear and have some snide about them. Like many others have said, not the signing we want but he might be a lead that we need (as long as he’s not our only signing lol)

If he is a good professional then maybe adds cover. Can't see him challenging for a starting spot at his sge. If he is we are in some state.

Everton are like Sisyphus and his stone pushing. No matter what hes told, no matter what the results, we still keep making the same mistakes over and over again. I mean we asked Tom Davies to stay?! Ashley Dung is 38. What next? A transgender striker?

We havent got the luxury of investing. This is the worst squad(at the moment) that i have seen in many years going into a season.
We need players for the season that starts in a few weeks that you know what you're going to get. It is for me genuinely all about the now, and going into that new stadium as a prem club.

As balance goes at the back this is a no brainer really for me, a player that put 20 odd matches last season and performed, sure he put in a shift when needed.

I'm a Villa fan so well placed to comment on Ash.

he's been great for us last season probably better than the season before in all honesty. He came in for Matty Cash when the latter was injured and kept the shirt based on some great performances. Obviously for most of our run in we were on the front foot so he wasn't as exposed as he may have been if we had a backs to the wall run in as you had. I hope he does well and his levels of fitness and performance suggests he does have a season in him still - not every game, and maybe the hard slog around winter with games thick and fast may not be best, but you'll get a winner who will be great for morale and great for the dressing room.
