This sort of surprised me, but Sean has not put a foot wrong yet for my money since joining - and is starting to use subs a bit better, too. The mire we were in without workrate, Gordon, Rico, DCL, credible forwards and reliable LB/RBs was unbelievable. Him keeping us up I still think needs to sink in properly.
We're now better organised at the back, which was the first thing Dyche improved. If he thinks this improves us within the constraints of the UTTER DISGRACEFUL FINANCIAL AND TALENT MGT THAT PRECEDED DYCHE, we have to back his judgement.
Defensively and in the middle we look better:
- CMs in Doucs, Onana are adding goals to experience, both at a good age.
- Gana has experience, and Garner is rapidly stepping up.
- Iwobi and McNeil offering more of a threat
I've still got PTSD from watching Holgate play at left back at the end of last season, and Ashley young can cross too. So if this gives us a 1yr fix that helps at the back (
Branthwaite looks the real deal to me as well), this is job done and focus on CF and possibly attacking RM, RF we need if Gray isn't gonna fire.
