True - Imagine how many goals that young Franny Jeffers lad would have scored in a quality side like Wenger's Arsenal. Not a true comparison of course given Baines' comparative attitude and professionalism but 2+2 can often equal 5 in football.

Cole did it at the top level, for years on end, he was the best left back in the world for some time in my opinion.

I know united came in for him under Moyes, but did any top teams make a solid offer for him? Genuine question because I don’t think they did.

I disagree. Cole won more, but that was because of the teams he played in.

Baines was pound for pound the superior fullback for me, especially when you take his dead ball expertise into account.

Baines was a great player, and had a really great 3/4 years when he was peak, could have played for nearly anyone. For me though they are not in the same leauge.

Nah, Maldini was the perfect left back. I've got to say Cole was the best LB English football have ever produced though.

I’ve also never really got the “Cashley” thing. If you were working for a company and were one of the top employees and when it came round to pay rises you get massively low balled when compared to those around you then anyone would be furious too. I know it comes across as a bit grim given the numbers involved but it was still a situation where he is being offered way less than his value. He was one of the best left backs in the World and one of Arsenal’s most important players.

Is someone genuinely trying to argue that Baines was as good if not better than Cole ?

Cole is the best LB in premier league history and for several years probably the best LB in the world. He was also the perfect definition of a big time player who steps up in big matches.
