He doesn’t come over as articulate or sharp as a TV punter but I’m sure Lampard knows what he’s getting.

Cole was the best player of that generation of England players I always thought.

Think one critical thing he had over Baines was absolute belief in himself. Excellent player too of course, probably defensively better than Baines.

Bet Baines still makes Iwobi and Doucoure look like amateurs with his passing and crossing in training though.

I know some wont like this, but Cole did his job at a higher tier than Baines, CL, winning titles, cup finals, England.

So Cole has to shade it for me.

That's a fair point, but individually they both had amazing strengths but in different areas of their game. In a nutshell defensively Cole, offensively Baines, but both could do the other weaker part competently as well and that is what made them stand out in their generation.

There’s no probably about it. He was one of the best defenders of his generation.

I love Baines, and going forward, there weren’t many better than him. But defensively and overall technical ability, Cole is clear imho.

And I can’t stress how much Baines is my favourite ever player.

As a player, Cole was world class, put peak Ronaldo (Cristiano) in his pocket on a regular basis. As a pundit he’s terrible, only Owen is worse. As a coach, Jamie O’Hara says he’s good, so I don’t know what to think.
