Look at your young men fighting
Look at your women crying
Look at your young men dying
The way they've always done before
Look at the hate we're breeding
Look at the fear we're feeding
Look at the lives we're leading
The way we've always done before

I read that the Greens were more likely to win, maybe labour are afraid of losing more voters to them

labour have a huge majority, they shouldn't be afraid of anything. It's a bit like last nights game, we're all just waiting for the side to wake up and start operating. There's more to this Burnham situation, I'm convinced.
They've kept him as mayor.
His support aren't happy.
He get's back in eventually, when's his mayoral term up?
Who is strong enough to try to lead labour from here, are voters stupid enough to have cast the tories out and proper only to vote the same firm back in under the reform banner?

…..just wonder if Burnham knew his application would be knocked-back, he might just be playing a blinder. As far as PLP is concerned, there is a focus on Wes Streeting in any leadership battle but I wouldn’t underestimate Shabana Mahmood being a player.
He will have known in advance that they’ll knock him back

….said today he was ‘regularly speaking to no10 over the weekend and nobody told him he’d be refused’ but you have to think he had a very good idea.

Trouble is brewing.
Yep agree. A canny political operator knows how these things play out. He’s been a member of a cabinet, the shadow cabinet and the metro mayor for GM so has gained his political leadership wings. I think he was testing the water to see how much support he would get off the back of the rejection.

Seemingly 50 plus members of the PLP have written objecting to the decision. Now objecting to the decision is not necessarily the same as voicing strong support for Burnham but it is telling. He’s got three year left to run as mayor, the challenge he has (if he has aspirations of being leader and PM) and given his age, is how he gets in to mount a leadership challenge, and before Labour potentially lose their huge majority in the next election.

Pleased to see he's applying to be a PM.

He's a brilliant person and if he beats the threat of reform he will easily become our next PM and sort out our the mess we've endured the last 17 years.

Also being a blue is irrelevant but it's a lovely bonus.

Born in Liverpool, supports Everton, Mayor of Manchester, wants to go to London, sounds like an Eric Idle opening piece.
Or somebody with a Richard Whittington complex

Anyway Starmers snide manouver is a low trick from a worried man - he's not going to last a full term.

I heard last night on Newsnight Angela Rayner has a big financial backer - leadership push after the May local elections ......

The more comes to light the more it you suspect he might have known and been working in conjunction with another candidate

Speaking as an outside observer , Democrats who operated like Starmer in America played a role in bringing forth a monstrosity like Trump. Starmer's willingness to concede policies and narratives to the right while trying to court their voters instead of galvanizing the left , along with capitulating to corporate interests instead taking principled and sensible stands for the people is exactly what centrist Democrats did and in some still do.

I don't know heaps about Burnham but from what I seen he seems more genuine and actually posseses conviction so I hope he has opportunity to replace the jellyfish
