Andy Burnham is the Kevin Keegan of politics as he’s very popular but not as good as he or people think.

He’s too big for being a regional mayor but he was a poor Secretary of State and Minister in Government and as a potential PM all his weaknesses would be exposed pretty quickly.

He’s failed to be elected Labour leader in 2 previous leadership elections and if the electorate for that internal leadership election is broadly the same why would he win through this time?

Burrnham’s candidature opens up potential loss of the available constituency and the Manchester mayoral region to Reform which would be a massive loss to Labour and I believe internal polling indicates that is a real possibility.

Andy Burnham is only interested in himself and the national interest is a very distant second. If he is smart,as he and his supporters claim, then the clever thing is to sit on the sidelines for a little while longer.
