Andy Burnham

Speaking as an outside observer , Democrats who operated like Starmer in America played a role in bringing forth a monstrosity like Trump. Starmer's willingness to concede policies and narratives to the right while trying to court their voters instead of galvanizing the left , along with capitulating to corporate interests instead taking principled and sensible stands for the people is exactly what centrist Democrats did and in some still do.

I don't know heaps about Burnham but from what I seen he seems more genuine and actually posseses conviction so I hope he has opportunity to replace the jellyfish
I think this is a very perceptive insight. The failure to learn anything from the US election between a populist loose canon (being polite) and a somewhat still vaguely attached to normality incumbant party will likely be damning for Labour here.

Can't help but think Starmer has accelerated his own demise with this decision. It just makes him look weak, particularly if Reform win the seat.

Burnham is a clever fella - when the Labour PLP was tearing itself apart during the Corbyn era, he wisely got out of the way and out of Westminster, knowing that he would alienate the Labour left if he fought against his leadership.

He's managed to stay largely untainted by the Corbyn goings on and, being out of Westminster, isn't tarred with the brush of the current unpopular Starmer government. I'm not sure Burnham foresaw the latter, but I'm pretty certain the former was a calculated move.

He's a pragmatist. Has a reputation for largely getting stuff done, but won't veer far left or right, as much as he may hint occasionally.

Do wonder if he's miscalculated this attempt to stand though. Would he have anticipated Starmer bottling it like that? Dunno, but as much as it's made Starmer look even weaker than before, I do wonder if Burnham may have missed his chance.

What a clown he really is .....
This sort of stuff...along with Burnam-gate is borderline banana republic-esque.
Seems to me in the last 18mths Labour and Starmer have gone from landslide to having 1 foot in the Berlin Bunker of April 1945.
I'm just waiting for that film clip of Hitler's rant to resurface suitably redialogued for the present day.

To think back when I lived in Huyton, Harold Wilson was my MP and my vote actually seemed to count for something good.

Finally, after 40yrs of me voting, we finally get the opportunity to have a PM who I can believe in.
A man who has proven he can make a difference through political means.
Manchester is booming because of the work he, and those around him, have put in. Give him a chance to fix the rest.

And he's one of us.
Mark Carney isn't doing too bad, as a blue, working to make the world a brighter place.
Two of them together could fix the lot.

Good luck Andy

I pointed out a golden rule re Burnham earlier.
How did he allow the Manchester leg of HS2 to get squashed?
There's a few rotten eggs in the manchester plod also.
Northern powerhouse rail? What is it and when's it being delivered?
Where does he stand on jim'll-brexits public funded new old trafford?
Any expansion re manchester airport?
Protected social housing to replace inner city gentrification developments?

Just off the top of my head...
