Benard is on approx £120k+ a week so 40k profit

Walcott was on around 100k a week so assuming Gray ends up on around 40k-50k thats 50k-60k profit.

Begovic will essentially take Lossl's wages

So about 100k a week profit not bad at all.

Not including the 110k or so saved from Bolasie + Besic.
It's not quite the accounting miracle being sold to us on here. All three would be paid for by Bernard alone according to loads on here.

Are you saying you are happy to pay £80k a week to a player you describe as a squad player? He'd be in our top 10 in terms of wages. How can we justify that for a "squad player"?

Begovic is deffo on more than Lossl.

At 80k a week, for two seasons, it's £8 million, all in.

You don't get an awful lot for a net (wages and fee) spend of £8 million over two seasons these days.

Still not answering. Should we be paying Andros Townsend £80k a week? Does that represent good value for a "squad player"?

Yes as we've saved 20k a week replacing Walcott with him.

Otherwise we could have signed someone of a similiar quality on say 40k a week but with a £10 million transfer fee and paid more than that over the course of his contract.

But there needs to be context. If we'd paid 4 million (buttons in today's market) and gave him 40k a week would you be less bothered?
No, it would still be a rubbish signing. He's rubbish, we shouldn't sign him. In 12 months when we want rid of him for being rubbish which team would take on his massive wage? For a reference point see Bolasie, Yannick or Tosun, Cenk or Bernard.
