It’s a strange one mate because you’d have thought having other players doing all the necessary nitty gritty stuff would just allow him to flourish and keep the ball ticking for us.

He played well against Spurs at the start of the season and has just regressed again since then really.

He seems to have lost all the ability to control and pass a ball and has no idea what’s happening around him, constant early or late balls being played, usually over hit. He looks slow and sluggish. It’s very reminiscent of his form prior to his injury last season.

Definitely a countdown conundrum mate. He's been far too inconsistent for my liking, only showing glimpses of what he's capable of.

We've tried him in a 2, we've tried him in a 3, he barely has any responsibility to have to defend but what he does have to do is get on the ball and dictate the tempo. We've seen him do that far too little.

Christ.

Could have sworn we had a transfer window started with "Sign Andre Gomes".

Old news now mate. Gomes was perfect for our imitation of West Ham, flitting between 8th and 12th.

We've now had a taste of Rodriguez and we like the taste so we want more Rodriguezezezezz.

Less Andre, MORE Rodriguez
Less Gylfi, MORE Isco
Less Delph, MORE of anyone else

There’s just too many excuses with this fella. He’s just back from injury, he can only play in a three. He needs another Gueye next to him. Looks what surrounds him on the pitch. I even remember his form dropped off a cliff in December the first season he was here but everyone just said he was tired and needed a rest. When you make excuses for players all the time it is because they’re playing badly often. I’d rather have players who perform when things are against them, elevate their game when the chips are down, rather than the other way round. I am running out of ideas as to what this guy needs to actually play well though......

Think West ham fans would love to be part of a club flirting that high in the table ha

Your point is so right though, as soon as we start buying players like james, even our best players of just a year ago are the most at risk. Personally think we have more pressing issues, but there is something wrong in that I'm not 100% sure what gomes brings. He's been here a few years now with 1 goal and not many assists. I'd never call him a defensive mid either. I just feel the reason we go through every season with crap away records is because we never have a centre mid who's actually creative.

For me, we have to stop buying players around the £25m mark, and look at attracking a higher quality at the £40m mark. We have the money, but if we look at since moshiri arrived, we've bought about 20 players in that £25m-£30m bracket. We need a few obviously, but our whole squad shouldn't be at that ceiling, and that's why we're only ever making slow improvements / none at all. Obviously i mean players at that value who are actually worth that amount like Richarlison, not like siggurdsson who was at that same barrier price.

Good point. That bracket of player can sometimes wield bargains but more often than not, the best players are over 35 million. You can see what a difference having just one quality player can make in James. It's far more beneficial to buy a 50 million player than 2 x 25s. We know the recruitment has been far too inconsistent over the last few years and we seem to be adding more to the miss column. Mina and Gomes are in there for me.

Makes a mistake in the first 10 minutes.... he's going to have a bad game.

Does something brilliant in the first 10 minutes.... he's going to boss it.

Shame we see the latter more then the former.

Gomes played on the left of a 3 with Digne at Left Back & Richarlison further wide works very well as witnessed in the Spurs game and the unbeaten run after it.
Disruptions with Digne & moreso Richarlison out and he has struggled.

He's overcome a career threatening injury and I believe there's still a very good player there. Been tough to watch lately but wasnt it the same for Seamus after his injury .
It took a long time but he's been fantastic of late & I wont be writing Gomes off like some on here are.
