Sadly I think that ship has sailed,so enthusiastic when we signed him after watching him week after week here in Valencia, thought after the torrid time he had at Barcelona the change to the Prem Would do him good but even taking into account the injury he's only really had a few outstanding performances and the rest have been average at best. Needs a move to a less physical league. Holland,France back to Portugal? Won't get our money back though.

He tried hard to give a penalty away with a really ill judged tackle. He has not been great, in fact is a bit of a lumbering oaf. Not the best idea for DM and anywhere else, Bernard offers much more.

I have to say I remember things rather differently on this one.

He also had a number of absolutely awful games. Villa away (2-0) being the worst I've seen from an Everton player in some time.

He's been crap since lockdown matches, Only game I would say he's been pretty good is Palace and Sheffield United last season, He gets the most excuses made for his performances.

I cannot stand the stupid fouls he gives away. Fouls when he's got no chance at the ball, fouls where the attacker is not a threat, fouls in dangerous spots on the pitch. Fouls fouls fouls.

I looked up the numbers to confirm my suspicions and yessir. Gomes has 9 appearances this season. This is fouls per 90 minutes for players with minimum 8 appearances. He's #5 in the league.

You foul when you've been beaten - outmuscled, outfought, outsprinted, outdribbled, outstrategized. He gets beat too much. Then he does stupid things.

There's none so foul and foolish thereunto, but does foul pranks which fair and wise ones do.

I've said for a while his good looks weirdly convince a load of hetrosexual arl arse blokes that he's better than he actually is.

Very odd as a few games whilst on loan for us aside he's been poor.

This is absolutely the worst thing about his game. In possession he’s a very tidy player, especially when he’s given the directive to play forwards.
Would be interested to know what his fouls per 90 min stats were before his injury to put this has he/hasn’t he lost a yard of pace debate to bed?

I think Gana has to take a lot of credit for his performances while on loan. In fact, that could be said for a number of our midfielders.

I just don't think Gomes is built for the premier league. He's relatively useful when given acres of space, but no one's really giving you that much space in this league.

If he was a bit smarter, maybe he could mask his deficiencies with clever positioning etc, but he doesn't seem to have the brain. A good example of this being trying his best to give away a needless pen at 0-2 in the 88th minute the other day, which would have left us desperately defending for 6 minutes when we'd had them at arm's length for 90 mins. I'll admit my head fell clean off when that was originally given. My sanity needs at least a decade before we do another Newcastle.

The midfield has needed a big overhaul since last season - ideally Delph and one of Sigurdsson/Gomes should have been punted in the summer and Allan/Doucoure backed up by a 3rd CM signing even just a semi reliable loan like a Loftus Cheek type player.

We dont need a top drawer £40 million signing just someone who can come in and has you not flapping that we'll now get over run in the middle of the park.

Thats my concern now until January where we desperately need another CM to come in.

Don’t have the figures but he was certainly bad before the injury. I remember there being a stat that he’d made more fouls than successful tackles in his first season.
