2020/21 Andre Gomes

He tried hard to give a penalty away with a really ill judged tackle. He has not been great, in fact is a bit of a lumbering oaf. Not the best idea for DM and anywhere else, Bernard offers much more.
That was a perfectly timed tackle. He won the ball and nullified the threat. The ref got conned by the Leicester players dive.

When the commentary team need to slow it right down to frame by frame, in order to show Gomes made the "slightest of touches" to the opponent. That's never a penalty.

Still reckon it could be a mental thing with him above all. Seems to play within himself a lot, especially since the injury..

A confidence-boosting run in the side could be the tonic he needs, but he still needs to work harder for me either way.

I bet you were swearing at the tv when you first saw that tackle, itbwas a ridiculous tackle in that situation, even if it wasn’t a penalty, which it wasn’t. Gomes on the pitch means worrying times for me, and, I bet, plenty more Bluenose fans.

No tackle that wins the ball that cleanly could be considered as ridiculous. He had to get it right, and he did.

I have no truck in the Gomes debate, beyond hoping he finds his pre injury form. However, attempting to use that tackle as a stick to beat him with is unfair.

Hate figure? That is a ludicrous thing to say. This is a player who has scored 1 goal and got 3 assists in 54 appearances for this club. People are getting tired of his lackluster performances when we have witnessed what potential he has shown and all you can draw from this is "hate figure."
Some of them go beyond criticism mate. I just don't get why some fans need to be so vitriolic.

For what it's worth, I hope that Carlo picks Holgate in midfield today if Coleman is ready to come back. Gomes doesn't offer enough when we don't have the ball and Davies doesn't offer enough when we do.

I agree, but it is likely the player will fall over. If the player was going to get a shot in then you have to risk tackling from behind, but there was cover.
It takes very little to give away a foul or pen. If the ref was stubborn it could have been given. Anyway I would love Gomez to hit form but he does not fill me with confidence. As a DM it is Holgate for me at the mo and as a creative mid it would be Bernard.

I can see what you and @Cameron Manning are trying to say about the the recklessness of it. But he got the timing spot on. And VAR dealt with the erroneously given penalty. I would hope any ref who still gives a penalty after seeing it again would be plying their trade in the lower leagues for a bit.

As for playing Holgate in the middle, I'm not sure that could work. I have always thought John Stones has been playing out of position almost his entire career, and would make a great DM to sit in front of the defence. I'm just not sure Holgate has the eye for a pass, that a DM requires.

I don’t think it is unfair, I ask you again: when you first saw that tackle, without the replays, did you swear at the tv, I’ve already agreed it wasn’t a penalty, but he plenty of form for making ridiculous tackles all over the field, I don’t really need that tackle to beat him with a stick, there is plenty about his game that worries me, I think that he is too slow and weak for the premier league and plenty of games in which he has proved that.

Did fine before playing there. Best temporary fix we have I think.

Danger was he made the slightest of touches to the ball as well.

No I didn't swear at the tv. At first glance I did think it was a foul, but isn't that what VAR is for? As soon as you see it from another angle, it becomes clear the ball was won. The commentators had come to that conclusion before the ref had even had chance to take a 2nd look at it.
