Isn't that just baked beans?
The discussion was over putting the bacon on top vs mixing it in with the beans.

I put bacon on top, but don't chop mine up. Some folks don't want it, some do. The important factor is the 50/50 ratio of onions and beans, in my reckoning. Add Maple syrup and a proper shot of lea and perrins (about a quarter cup for me) and cook em low and slow. I don't know how crunchy the bacon will get, as I think about it more.

As the weather gets cooler, the baked beans look better and better.

I'll take baked beans any way you make them, so long as they're good. The locals here like to put ground beef in the baked beans, which I'm sure someone saw in Southern Living
