Am I out of touch?

It's true to say I am utterly disillusioned with society and its values (not sure if anybody has noticed) and this wage disparity is a key part of it. Long ago I realised that the more essential a job the less well paid it seems they are whereas trivial entertainers have obscene amounts of cash land at their feet. It shouldn't need to be spelled out at how wrong it is however what really did it for me is when I realised that society really didn't give a damn.

As a teacher for 30 years I put up with half the pay friends with similar qualifications were on, I put up with being a political pawn, I put up with being told how to suck eggs by brainless witless advisors hired by education authorities at £1000 per day. It's when I learned that society just didn't care about this disparity - that there were a lot of parents not only taking my efforts for granted but also expecting me to chip in and pay for equipment in school to demonstrate my dedication - that there were more teachers than parents at pta fundraising events - that I started getting really cheesed off.

Teachers and nurses are massively underpaid for the responsibilities, skills they have to have and conditions they work under. I'd go further and say so is the average GP. The reason is clear - it's the public. MPS won't raise tax a little (overtly) to fund proper pay for fear of losing the public vote. The same public are happy to throw £30+ a month at Sky to watch overpaid prima donnas cheat and flounce about a baize pitch in between endless adverts. It's this decision - personal mind numbing entertainment is more valuable than the fabric of society - that is the reason.

Eventually the same armchair viewer will be wheeled into a hospital as a result of stuffing one too many sausage rolls down their throat, and start moaning about how long they have to wait to be seen in their underfunded hospital. The reality of the position, of their contribution to the mess by constantly voting for capitalism and tories and the lowest possible (overt) taxez will never hit home in their stupid mind because, BECAUSE it was always somebody else's fault.

My take-home pay is only £62 a day. Is it right that I should have to pay more taxes?

I'd say the way the public purse is misused is more the issue.

It certainly is misused. It beggars belief when I read how much it costs to fill a pot hole. Certainly the labourers don't pocket the sum, nor the materials cost that. The balance will go to the enormous civil service contractors, their CEO bonus and shareholders.

Less well paid should only make minimal tax contributions for every penny of what what they earn us essential. Well paid people should be heavily taxed because they have more money they can possibly use and end up buying shares in contractor companies which only sees the necessity to profit on their behalf, from public funds.

If you really valued me, you would have seen my age on my profile a long time ago homie.

I had you down for 35ish and now I feel like my world is about to be torn apart

Sorry, I don’t stalk profiles, I like to leave a bit of mystery to life but yes, also thought The Whale was abar 35

Tbh the people pay so much tax right now. I'm in a good position right now regarding my pay check.

Would a better idea to scrap tax from wages and put tax on everything we buy and subscriptions.

I do recognise that players these days get paid far too much - as do other stars from the entertainment industry (although at least footballers don't have the gall to lecture us plebs about climate change and then fly everywhere in their own private jet, anyway I digress..) however I also recommend a book called 'My Father and other Working Class Football Heroes' by Gary Imlach, which tells us just how clubs used to take advantage of their players back in the pre-sky days.
It's a good book, everton related aswell. Off topic but the between the lines relationship between Gary and his Father will resonate with a lot of people in the UK, so much goes unsaid.

If you scrap tax on wages then those who are paid excessive rates will be inclined to save and invest rather than spend (which returns it to the economy). Investors,of course, expect returns which means prices rise, hitting the poor, and the wealthy just end up acquiring yet more wealth they don't need.

I don't like paying tax on what I earn either - but you have to accept it if you want to live in a managed environment with services I guess. Where it goes wrong is where those services cost so much due to the multitudes if middlemen, incompetent management and clawing CEO.

Talking about nurses

Nurses will be forced to work an extra unpaid shift every month to save cash under new rota proposals, its been claimed.

I see what you're saying @Bilko, but referring to your point about Bale pricing himself out of the market, point B is very relevant. It's obvious that he's happy enough to sit yight and take the higher paycheck. Maybe I worded it a little facetiously which msy have muddied the water, the key point is that most of us would take the higher offer unless the personal conditions were wildly different. Then again, most of us don't have the financial security efnjoyed by footballers.

Think of this though, by making as much money as possible in his career, wisely managed it could mean that no-one in the Bale family, present and future, will never have to work. Ever. Tempting.

For what it's worth I do think it's obscene, but as in any industry that generates such colossal amounts of money, the people who generate that cash are going to want to see some of it.

Agree, except the diatribe against sausage rolls.

I'm gonna throw my two cents in and make you feel even better.

Despite my age i am a huge fan of video games and sometimes like to view a website called Twitch to get a gander at new games just released or undiscovered games; to see if i would like them before a purchase.

There is thousands of people on that platform who play video games as their main job in life. The viewer (if he feels like) can pay a subscription fee to the gamers channel (not needed to view). That gamer/streamer keeps 60% of that subscription fee. Not only is it their main job, but i am seeing people making upwards of 50k a month.... some well over 100k a month. This is not including people donating money, sponsorship deals etc. Its absolutely outrageous that people are being paid this kind of money by playing video games.

One such ' streamer ' has recently signed a contract to stream his channel on a Twitch's rival platform Mixer. That contract is rumored to be upwards of 10 million a year..... NOT including money he will receive through subscriptions. The mind boggles and it really is a sorry state of affairs. That is the world we live in now though
