Am I out of touch?

When the public in general are prepared to pay to watch nurses doing their jobs for 90 minutes, with a tea break half way through, (both live and televised) and buy nursing related souvenirs (replica nurses uniforms etc). When nurses become internationally recognised media stars and feature in Nivea (spit) adverts. When nurses' opinions are sought by news outlets on subjects totally outside of their job zone, and they get paid for them. When nurses get a percentage cut of their value when transferred from A&E to Maternity, then maybe, just maybe, the pay gap between Premier League footballers and nurses will be reduced slightly. Don't hold your breath waiting though.

You are 9 years off.

HAHA...YOU OLD, FOOLIO!

Thanks for your responses
It just beggars belief to me when you think about the difference between the two occupations.
Maybe I was just influenced by my daughter phoning on the way home tonight after another terrible shift
I know I can’t do anything about it.
I’m just frustrated

I think 99% of us have had the same thoughts, mate...the reality is your sympathy for your daughter also heightens the disgust to the next level, which is understandable. She's in a field you have to love or it will beat you down, regardless of pay...I know, having to live vicariously through the other halves tribulations as a trauma nurse. Same goes for teachers etc.

If you have a daughter who is 25 then you are almost the same age as me.

You are defo old enough to know that in life, people never get what they deserve.

People get accused of being grumpy as they get older, I think thats cos the more you learn of the world, the more you realise just what an utter cesspit it is.
Are you the fat ginger haired Goat? I get confused with all these Goats.

Just reading about Jaydon Sancho getting a new contract at £190,000 a week.
He is 19.
My daughter is 25 and works for the NHS as a neo natal nurse on a kids intensive ward. She qualified at uni with a first class degree. She works a 13 hour shift. She is paid £25,000 a year.
I’m not blaming Jaydon nor am I jealous.
But something is not right.
It’s why I am falling out of love with professional football
Join the club fella.

I blame Rupert Murdock and those who subscribe to football tv.

I do recognise that players these days get paid far too much - as do other stars from the entertainment industry (although at least footballers don't have the gall to lecture us plebs about climate change and then fly everywhere in their own private jet, anyway I digress..) however I also recommend a book called 'My Father and other Working Class Football Heroes' by Gary Imlach, which tells us just how clubs used to take advantage of their players back in the pre-sky days.

Question: You have a job. You have a contract which pays you X amount, let's say 1 million a year. Another job comes along which offers you, for the sake of argument, 750k a year.

Would you

A) Stay where you are and earn 1m guaranteed
B) Go somewhere else and earn less for no reason, other than you play football for below what you could earn not playing football.

?
The point is that if after 2 or 3 years you have earned plenty of money, probably more than you could ever need, would you not be free to chose where you go as the money is still be good.
Bit like making a fortune going into your fifties, then relaxing and enjoying what you do as the pressure is off.
Respect to you, but point B isn't a reason at all. Clearly that isn't why players move. They move for various reasons but never for less money. As in a worker could well take a drop in pay to be happier in their work/ lifestyle/ surroundings / kids etc.
