Slavery in some Arab states was still legal until the 1970s
Even today in some countries very few people have ever been convicted , under the law , although the practice is still widespread.
Anybody who keeps a fellow human being as a slave should be seen as an animal and put down in my eyes..

It can't drag us into a broader war. That's why.

Western democracies believe in human rights and the spread of democracy when it's convenient. It's a hazard of being a democracy, which is only as good as the education level and degree of hypocrisy of the median voter.
