that's a really stupid thing to sayIf you use the word "Trump" as an excuse in any way for this withdrawal, you're attempting to excuse how blatantly wrong Biden has got this. It's on him.

life is better for them now but how do you propose that is maintained?
There is no appetite in America for a never ending war in Afghanistan and nor should there be.
as I responded to Tubey, I am. I think Biden has made a mess of the withdrawal. I'm more addressing the collective amnesia among some posters when it comes to the roll of Trump in this mess.
that's a really stupid thing to say
it's being pushed around because the war has gone on for 20 years with no resolution in sight. This phrase of ‘never ending war’ is pushed around as if the USA was still fighting the Vietcong. They weren’t ….
So nothing that happened pre-August 2021 matters?I keep repeatedly seeing variations of "Biden has handled this badly but..." - with the key word being "but".
There shouldn't be a "but" with this.
I wasn't mitigating anything.I think the same thing about your post above. I think it's stupid to bang on about "the role of Trump" to mitigate the disastrous actions of a man who has been in office a considerable amount of time now and has, alone, put this withdrawal in place.
So nothing that happened pre-August 2021 matters?
The Taliban will take over Afghanistan. The Afghan Western puppet governement will no longer be there. The Afghans will have em out before end of the year. It looks like the Taliban have huge support of the Afghan people.
And here we go again.
Trump hasn't been in office for 8 months. Biden had every opportunity to do this his own way. He wasn't compelled by anything Trump did to do any of this. It's on him, it just is.
Of course he is constrained by what his predecessor did; all Presidents are to one extent or another - Trump was, as was Obama, as was Bush. Biden could have done what so many dishonest people are saying and said the US wasn't going to leave, and he'd have had to live with the implications of that as would his successor.
I rather suspect a lot of people on here (and certainly in the media) slating him now would be slating him for that, too.
it's being pushed around because the war has gone on for 20 years with no resolution in sight.
For the progressive policies to remain in place, the US troops would have to remain in place.
Unless there's another realistic way
again, comparing Afghanistan to Spain is similar to the S. Korea shout above.Every year that passed by the country was changing. Of course the troops would have had to remain in place, but they were fewer than you had based in that other hotspot Spain…..
I feel like context always mattersNot in regards to the withdrawal no.
Here's a randomer on 1 August 2021 in this very thread predicting exactly what would happen. Wasn't a difficult prediction. Biden was the man who oversaw what is happening now, acting on terrible intelligence with no strategy. That's quite literally nothing to do with Trump, just as it's nothing to do with Bush, Obama or anyone else; it's on Biden.
maybe the intel that since Pompeos deal with the Taliban, the ISKP were re organizing and planning attacks, or the fact that the puppet govt. crumbled. There was absolutely nothing compelling Biden to leave by September 2021. Quite literally nothing. Indeed, he'd already moved Trump's May 'deadline'.
He was not constrained on this in the slightest.
