Not indefinitely. But how long have they been in the places I mentioned. Afghanistan is an incredibly complex situation. It wold take decades for behaviour to change and for freedoms to become ingrained into such a country.
The situation for women will now become intolerable after nearly 20 years of a sort of freedom. This was a 50 year project to help change the objectives of the Taliban and the generations of children growing up under its control. It was just too soon to leave….

That 50 year number is a complete guess though. Which makes the length of stay indefinite.
Absolutely tragic situation for the Afghan people. In the USA, the Republicans will try to pin this as Biden's failure, but it has mutliple causes and was an insane situation to begin with.
Some people are just utterly [Poor language removed] different and mad. Type that is fun to be around, but my God, kind of people that i wouldn't want to be related to, simply because amount of worry and misery stunts like this probably causing to their loved ones
Hate Trump with a passion but this one is very difficult. We had to withdraw at some point the Taliban were always going to wait us out - so as bad as it is, you cant criticise him for wanting troops home. Biden is completing the agreement Trump made and we like good little lapdogs follow suit.
We can criticise the intelligence, strategy and the training methods or competence of the training over there for the recent surrender of Afghani forces.
And Bush/Blair should still be prosecuted for war crimes. You think we would learn our lesson but it wont be long until the defence lobbying begins as they need to rack up a profit and another war is started.

20 years of occupation and the US puppet government falls apart in 2 weeks. Incredible.
The PDPA government lasted 3 years after the Soviets left. South Vietnam clung on for 2 after the US left there.
What a fantastic waste of money and lives.

I reside in Military City, USA and see men and women physically and psychologically affected by these wars daily. It's heartbreaking and maddening. Those brave men and women did not fail - our politicians and money-grubbing war industrial complex set them up for failure.

Eventually it is just impossible to help people who can’t or won’t help themselves. Very unfortunate for the citizens that the Taliban are the only ones there who seem interested in governing the country.
