Ademola Lookman

He seems to naturally drift in, he never stays on the wing. As soon as Coleman gets it he naturally goes inside instead of down the wing.
And that's great, don't get me wrong.

But to be a top, top player, he needs to vary his runs and positions. That was Barkley's issue after season 1 under Martinez. Teams got wise to him counter-attacking on the half turn, rushing him to slow him down and watch as his mind exploded under the stress of it.

Walcott is actually excellent in this regard (varying his runs). Sometimes he'll stay wide, others he looks to burst between full back and CB. Problem is he doesn't demand the ball enough when he gets in those positions and his first touch is usually crap.

Back to Lookman, i've seen very few players who can create space for themselves as easily as he does. He never seems panicked when he receives it which allows him to either beat a man or generate space to allow time for him to get his head up.

If he can add making runs between CB and full back, using his space, he is going to be unplayable given his ability.

His close control is outstanding, he can receive the ball in tight spaces and keep hold, a skill very few possess.

His style of play is very similar to the lad Sancho at Dortmund. He isn't at that level yet but with game time he could certainly raise his game.

Could see him playing off the striker in a CF role. Dropping in getting the ball, feeding off the front man
Would be nice, wouldn't it...

R, Lookman and a boss CF playing as a front 3 with Digne and a RB as wing backs. Jeepers... What a front 3 we might one day have.

It's a skill very few British players possess. Europeans can do it well, Gomes an example of outstanding close control and ability to beat players in a very tight space. For so long it seems British players are selected on size, strength, power etc. All good but only get you so far, especially in the modern game. A lot of academies in NZ are coaching those close control skills really hard. I can't play like that, never had anywhere near that ability, but too see others do it well is a joy to watch.
Absolutely loved watching him v Bournemouth. A shimmy one way, step over, and player beaten like he wasn't there. Going to be exciting times watching Lookman play for us.
