Transfer Rumour Aaron Ramsey

I guess maybe I’m confused, but why would we not be able to get him? He’s a good player, but he’s not young and he’s not a particularly a good athlete. If he wants high wages, what other big 6 team is going to take him? Chelsea maybe as if Barkley is playing, he’s an obvious upgrade there, but it’s not like he’s going to crack the lineup at Bayern, Juventus, Madrid, Barca, etc.

I do think he’s a good player, but I’d hope we’d look elsewhere for a number 8 next year.

Because he’s leaving Arsenal for more money and to win things. We can’t offer either of those things.

I never said we shouldn't buy him. In fact I started the post with those exact words. What I don't think is that we should buy both him AND Gomes as I think it would unbalance the squad. One or the other. As I said, both seem to be top quality.

I have only seen gomes play for us so can’t really say this with to much confidence. I think they’re two totally different players, so I do t see why we shouldnt sign both if we can, having to many quality players is a problem I have never seen us have I’m my life, and because they’re different you can approach different teams with more options . Again gomes might be a beast and score goals etc but going off the last two games I don’t see him as that, he’s very good on the ball and got in the box for a header the other night, but I’d really want him deeper. Siggy is leathal both shooting and with his choice and execution of a final ball in the final 3rd, trouble is we can’t get him the ball enough I’m the space between their defence and midfield. We need another player to play that through ball to him and I think gomes is more than capable of that, he played for Barca that constantly play against teams parking the bus, I.e the teams we struggle against, and he must be used to finding players in that area, he done this the other night , played a simple but very effective ball to siggy who played Walcott straight in for a 1-1. That’s why I prefer him deeper , and someone like Ramsey would compliment both siggy and gomes imo and if any of those are injured or out of form we have a quality player pushing them , he’s not De Bruyne , Silva standard but he is quality.

There are only a handful of players better than him in this league. Ramsey is just below the world superstar level and therefore without a truck load of money (250k+ p/w kind of money) and with at best just an outside hope of winning something we will struggle to get him.

I don't think any two players are the same mate, but the problem for me is that they both play in the same position. You can probably count on one hand the number of games we would play a midfield 3 of Gomes, Ramsey and Siggy. There is an argument that you could play a midfield 3 of Gana Gomes and Ramsay in some games, but I think that Silva is the sort of manager that would always want a proper No10 in his team and I think Bernard will be that player if Siggy wasn't available.

So I think for the majority of the time it's going to come down to either/or between Gomes and Ramsey, and I think it's inevitable that one will end up unhappy because he's spending too much time warming the subs bench. That will then have a knock on effect on squad morale. It always does.

This is the same discussion we had regarding the back up strikers Tel. I just don't believe the club will be able to juggle two players of their quality for the same position. That may change if we ever start getting regular CL football but, for the moment, and for the sake of the squad unity, were better off with developing young players such as Kenny, Holgate, Baningime, Davies, Lookman and DCL forming the nucleus of our squad back up players.

The truth is that he's being jibbed by Arsenal, not the other way around. I went on an Arsenal forum last night, and they aren't overly arsed about him leaving. But they have been spoiled over the years, and will continue to have the likes of Ozil and that Miki feller in midfield once he leaves. There were plenty of fans saying he was a good player as well, but Arsenal are capable of upgrading on Ramsey, whereas we will struggle to attract him.
Fair one, all I’d heard from it was that he wasn’t happy with the contract. Like you say, he wouldn’t be a huge miss he had one really good season about 4 years ago and not much since.

Interesting. I can see them moving a level above Ramsey to be honest so he seems a silly boy to not take their offer before they took it away.

One thing to remember about this is that whatever offer Arsenal did give him it would have been huge. He’s probably already on a lot and this would have been even more.

Is he worth what we’d have to give him to convince him to come here? Not sure myself.

Catch 22 tho mate, if players like davies, DRKSL and especially Kenny are getting game time. We won’t ever be CL regulars or even top 6 regulars

If they got the amount of time they did last season and at the beginning of this season when we had 9 injured, then you'd be right. But they'll at best be getting 20 minutes here and there plus the odd start. You would also expect them to improve with proper coaching and experience. But for the moment they are squad players. If we don't get top 6 this year it won't be because our squad players are not good enough. it will be because our 1st XI aren't good enough.

but you are saying there is a chance.... works for me!
