I agree. Mental illness, should be regarded in the same way as any other kind of illness. I thought my post supported this. The fact is, there is a population of people out there that still like to label it, and regard it as weird, based upon ignorant perceptions of a person's behavior.
There is a difference between "mental distress" and mental illness. One is psychological and the other is physiological, although the two are interconnected and affect each other consistently. However, when the brain chemistry becomes so out of wack that it cannot correct itself (physiological), it really does, to quote you, "robs people of responsibility for their words and actions". In this state, they really are imprisoned by their own state of mind and need external help to get back to "normal" (yes, whatever that is). More often than not, the illness is well hidden, and has no outward signs, until one day, without warning, they end up doing something, well, more peculiar than "normal".
We are all limping along with our own daily struggles, but sometimes we just need a little extra help. Here's hoping Aaron gets that help and ignorant journalists get the "help" they need to understand this.
