Aaron Lennon

Lennon was part of Martinez' plan to turn us into the Sunderland of the North-West.

Its not his fault, but you do have to wonder when a seemingly 'good egg' gets banished to the Spurs youth team. Its not like it was a punishment. It was a 'You're not good enough fella'

Yet we went and paid for him. FFS.

Very harsh, hes very consistent, he gives 7/10 every game, hes a hard worker who gives his all, just sadly a bit limited with regards a final product, if Lukaku even gave 10% of what Lennon does we would be 5 points clear by now.
That's why when he first arrived I think he revitalised our forward line as he offered energy, pressure and basically the doggedness we lacked.

People are right to question whether he offers consistency with regards to the final output we need, but not his work ethic and general attitude.

He's definitely a squad player rather than a regular starter and unfortunately regardless of the above his performance against Swansea was poor.

Yet at least you know what you get from him and I think he'd offer some much needed guile if he was chosen to start tomorrow.

I wouldnt want the fella starting week in week out, in hindsight it was foolish to pick him up after his loan but he certainly deserved it and I cant really fault El Fraudo for picking him up, albeit we got a bit spanked on the price, but hey ho, 4.5m isnt a vast sum.

None of our wingers are perfect, not by a long chalk and we could probably do with looking at replacing all of them if im totally honest, but they all have a match winning move in their locker, even the boy Lennon.

I maintain that if we added something a little different at number 10, the middle of the park or even up top with/instead of Lukaku our wingers wouldnt be expected to win us every game and they wouldnt look as "bad".

I've emphasised this point a few times. We lack very little pace, composure or creativity in the middle so things become slow and predictable.

Not taking away from some of their deficiencies or poor performances, but our wingers lack the service and often become stationary or lost.

If they were provided with some creative balls or defenders were drawn away then they may have the opportunity to successfully do their job.

Unfortunately, they're too often drawn inside or have to come deep to pick up the ball. Still, I think a few new faces wouldn't go amiss either.

Ive been crying like a bish for years now about that number 8 with magic in his boots, Le door unlocker as they would call him in France.

Ha, someone who likes déverrouillage des portes. In all seriousness, teams must watch the same DVD of us over and over again as it's repetitive.

After that they probable giggle at how predictable we are to play against. We need someone who can change that and free other players to play.

Someone who can control the tempo, move forward and get the ball out into dangerous positions. That itself would revitalise our whole team.

I think we'd see Geri flourish in such opportunities as he'd be able to run behind defences, get wide and cut in or simply swing some balls in.

All without being stuck stationary or instantly closed down as he got a ball at the tempo of a game of garden bowls.

Not so sure he is a 'good egg' though. A mate who is a spurs fan rekons there was a group including Lennon, Kaboul and a couple others that they couldn't wait to get out of the door. His mate also worked in the players bar at Southampton and said Lennon was one of the biggest tits they'd had there. Bit of a show boy apparently. No sign of any of that on the pitch though and always puts a shift in so I was a bit surprised when he told me.

As I am now you've told me.

Our game is built around getting it wide and lashing a ball in, which if we still had Duncan up top would be a wonderful tactic, I bet Duncan heads everyone of them in the net from the bench, but Lukaku hasnt headed a ball since 2014 so most of them are wasted, im not just "blaming" Lukaku, not even Zlatan standing on top of Peter Crouch could have got near most of those crosses versus Swansea.

Nor am I saying the tactics are wrong as such, but the players arent really doing what I suspect is being asked of them, they arent pressing enough and they arent really attacking with tempo, again im not bashing players here, but it seems to slow down at certain phases, it should be fast, fast, fast, but somebody puts their foot on it and the other team has 10 men behind the ball.

If we had somebody that could just see that run that Lukaku had made, cos he makes loads of good little runs, but either the pass is poor or people just dont see it, I ride him hard, his workrate at times is grim, but after 60minutes of making runs and being ignored I would prolly get a little pissed myself.

Anyway, im waffling.....

Aaron Lennon, good little squad option.

I'm the sort of optimistic fan that gets excited about most signings but with Lennon I was disappointed that we signed him permanently. His best days are behind him and even then, all he had in his locker was pace. His all round game, particularly crossing, is not good enough. If it were, he'd have been considered more for England. Can't see him starting many games even in Bolasie's absence.
