A small incomplete guide for a trip to Ruzomberok

I was invited to write a small "guide" for the Evertonians who are going to the match in Ruzomberok (as Slovak Evertonian). However, I suppose that such a guide will write Everton on its official site, so I am trying to give you more detailed and (hopefully) useful information that is not likely to be on the official site.
I collected information from my own internet survey (I'm not from Ruzomberok) and from one member of our Czech & Slovak Everton Supporters Club, who is from Ruzomberok.

Public transport:

In general, trains are more comfortable and faster than coaches in Slovakia. I have noticed that many Evertonians want to travel to Ruzomberok via Krakow, but some of you have trouble finding public transport links between Krakow and Ruzomberok. Public transport between Krakow and Ruzomberok is not very good (Ruzomberok is a very small town...), generally better (but more expensive) option is to rent a car (in Krakow Airport or in Krakow city).

The best website for finding public transport links is
http://cp.atlas.sk/vlakbusmhd/spojenie/
It is available only in Slovak language, so I translated basic words from this web page so I hope it should be enough for you to use it (or use google translator):

Odkiaľ: From where
Kam: Where
Dátum a čas: Date and time
Len priame spojenia: Direct connections only
Len vlaky bez povinnej rezervácie: Only trains without a mandatory reservation
Teraz: Now
Odchod: Departure
Príchod: Arrival
Celkový čas: Total time (for travel)

Anyway, I found this connections for Thursday morning 3.8. (Krakov - Ruzomberok):

Krakow Airport 7.30 - Ruzomberok coach station (autoobusova stanica) 10.05 (turbotiger.eu)

Krakow coach / bus station 11.00 - Ruzomberok coach station 14.00

Krakow Airport 13.50 - Ruzomberok coach stat. 16.26

Back after the game:

3.8. Ruzomberok coach stat. 19.05 - Krakow Airport 21.35 (but probably this is too early)

3.8. Ruzomberok train station 23.01 - Bohumin train station 1.41 by Slovak railway
(go to the Bohumin coach station - just 2 min. walking distance), wait until 2.35 - coach to Krakow Airport 5.05 (Turbotiger.eu)

4.8. Ruzomberok train station EC Express 1.46 - Bohumin train station 3.54,
4.04 Bohumin train station EN Silesia train - Krakow main station 7.08

4.8. Ruzomberok coach station 3.15 - Krakow Airport 6.15

4.8. Ruzomberok coach station 8.10 - Krakow Airport 10.50

4.8. Ruzomberok coach station 12.50 - Krakow Airport 15.30

Traveling to Ruzomberok via Vienna / Bratislava:

The train between Vienna and Bratislava runs every half hour. Connections for Thursday morning 3.8. – a few examples:

Wien Hbf 10.16 – Bratislava train station 12.22 arr., dep. 12.55 – Ruzomberok 17.03

Taxi:

Some have asked me for a taxi from Krakow to Ruzomberok. Taxi is, of course, expensive, but for some Evertonin maybe only one option (due to a late flight).
I´m from Slovakia so I don´t know much about a taxi in Krakow. But in general - call a taxi over the phone, tapping directly on the street is more expensive. Do not arrange a taxi from companies that are at the airport or at the train station, they are the most expensive. Call a taxi that is properly registered, and a taxi has a yellow sticker in the window and has good internet references and lower prices.
I found on the internet that cheapest texi companies in Krakow are

Beer: bad (Zlaty Bazant) – do not drink!
Location: 4,1 km from the train station (52 min. walking distance), address: Cremosna 8684 street.

5. Salaš Krajinka

Traditional local foods (examples): Bryndzové halušky, Halusky (boiled lumps of potato dough similar in appearance to gnocchi) with cabbage, Zemiakové pirohy pirohy (wrapping pockets of unleavened dough around potato, cooked in boiling water).
Beer: just from bottle and what is worst – it is Urpiner (terrible, disgusting, horor beer – do not drink it in any case! If someone in Ruzomberok offer you Urpiner beer, run!).
Location: 4,6 km from train station (57 min. walking distance), address: Cernova 556 street.
Web page: http://www.salaskrajinka.sk/sk/ponuka/restauracia.html

web page: http://www.cafeefekt.sk/

8. Laverna Steak House Alert - this pub has probably the best selection of beers but has mixed,
mostly poor references to services / waiters and the quality of meals.
Beers: very good – Pilsner, Staropramen (Czech lager), Hoegarden, Guinness
Cuisine: pizza, mexican, steak, meat.
Location: 500 m from train station (7 min. walking disatnce), address: Podhora 7 street.
References: https://www.tripadvisor.sk/Restaura...Reviews-Laverna-Ruzomberok_Zilina_Region.html

9. Nove Korzo - pub for rock / hard rock / heavy metal (etc.) fans.
Beer: good (Starobrno) and bad (Corgon – positive is that Corgon in this pub is from tank).
Cuisine: No
Location: 400 m from train station (5 min. walking distance)
web page: www.novekorzo.sk

Of course, in the center of the town you can find other pubs (for example around Hotel Kultura), the above mentioned pubs and restaurants are just tips.

Police and safety restrictions:

It is difficult to predict the severity of security restrictions and the police behavior, but generally do not expect so tolerant stewards and policemen as in England J In Slovakia, the police are infamous about the harsh interference with fans for small offenses. Please be careful.

If you have any other question (or if I forgot some important information), do not hesitate ask me :)

Great post thanks mate.

Will any of the places be showing the game? Might be struggling for a ticket

Great information, thank you.

We are going and will see you in the Café Efekt. Is it safe enough to wear colours?

Anyone thinking about going by coach to and from Krakow airport needs to check availability and buy tickets in advance. Some coaches are already sold out and we had to change our return plans. Instead of coming back from Ruzomberok to Krakow airport on the coach, we are having to get a train to Bohumin and get an airport coach from there instead.

The Club still dont know what our allocation is
We are getting 500 tickets, club are working out how best to distribute them

Can you get back to Bratislava after the match

That's brilliant mate.
Thanks very much for the help.

Any advice on getting from Katowice please.
We're planning on staying Tuesday night in Katowice, then train down on the Wednesday.

Thanks again!
