A rabbit in the head lights

Player Valuation: £1.5m
After watching yesterday's match I'm definitely convinced that Distin has to be dropped now. Never mind the fact that "oh Jonny Jonny" isn't getting a game, he's increasingly looking panicked in certain situations and positions.

His "rabbit in the headlight" moments were usually reserved for the big games (a reason not to play him in itself) but now it seems he's panicking against sides and players he should be comfortable with. It boggles my mind that our player of the season last year has hardly got a kick of the ball this year.

His flapping is beginning to cost us big, indeed his botched clearances lead to Peanut being put in the awkward position that earned him that second yellow.

But we all know Moyes is stubborn and has his favourites. As for playing big Vic wide on the right again! He has never made an impact out there. No sooner is he played in position and starts to make an impact, we see him shipped out off position again. Kev and Seamus have really made things happen on the right together. Why not let them keep playing together and building that relationship. Maybe we would end up having the same effect on the right with them two as we do on the left with Bainsey and Peanut.

Really think Oviedo needs to be risked against the RS on Sunday. Keep Kev on the right and let big Vic (if he starts) do what he's best at, and that's hassling centre backs through the middle.

Anyway, I'm praying for big wig and Gibbo's return, but that's another rant for another day ;)

I'm going to lie down in a dark room now.

Must admit, I was a tad disappointed with him in the immediate build up to Pienaars Red Card. Two hideously missed placed passes in succession.

Distin wasn't chosen because he was one of Moyes favourites, he was chosen because he is one of Moyes best players.
Agree with Vic out wide, what a depressing waste of one of our 11 player options, also can't wait for the return of our midfield duo.

Sorry mate, I can't agree with that. I will admit he's been fantastic over the years, but his recent performances (this season and last) are an indication of a player in decline. I would understand playing him if we had none else, but we have a fantastic centre back, who was our player of the season last year, warming the bench every week.

He has to start playing Jonny now. Failing that, he'll walk as soon as he can, then we end up having to buy a replacement for Distin in two years anyway. It makes sense for footballing and money reason to play Jonny now.

Distin wasn't the only one...Coleman had one or two hairy moments...Distin overall is worth his place IMO.

Seamus is a kid and learning his trade. He'll only do that by getting games. I think we are a better/more balanced team with him. I still think Distin is showing signs of decline.

I was pleased with Colemans display until that Penno thing. Thought he was a bit quick to launch it long but they all did that once we were down to 10 men.

Distin and Jag aren't too bad if Gibson plays as he'll take the easy 10-15 yard pass all day.

I'd go with Jag-Disty again for the derby as Heitinga has looked poor all season.

Aye, he'll learn not to launch himself into tackles as time goes on. Agree with you on Gibbo and Distin mate, but there's no way Gibbo will make the derby game, and Jonny hasn't started many so far this year. Any player needs a few games under his belt in order to get up to speed. I really think its time he was being played week in week out. It's a risk in the derby game ill admit, but would you rather have Jonny, or Distin flapping anytime he's put under pressure (never mind what he did the last time we played them)?

Agreed , but not once but at least 3 times he tried to dribble/pass it in the area....that's when we need the hoof...but I get your point about balance and him learning ...

Remember as well that Distin only came into the team because Heitinga had a 'mare against Wigan.

Heitinga's not exactly 'Bobby Moore' either.

It's a tough decision to make. Johnny was terrible for the dutch and has looked all over the show. only disty's passing has let him down. For that reason I'd go with the big fella as he's looked more defensively solid and we may need that depending on our injuries.

One of the lads who knows a thing or two said Gibbo was fit just that they aren't taking chances with him, unless thats changed? Hopefully Moyles will see that he needs to take a chance for this one.

Overall I prefer Johnny over all our CB's, but players out of form deserve to be dropped.

Duffy isn't bad and is a big threat from set-pieces???

I totally agree. No right foot, no balance. Plays like Bambi on ice. No concentration, he's just a left footed Yobo for me, his pace gets him out of many sticky situations.

HEITINGA AND JAGS DON'T WORK AS A PAIR. JAGS HAS BEEN IMMENSE THIS SEASON SO SHOULDN'T BE DROPPED. DISTIN HAS BEEN BETTER THAN HEITINGA THIS SEASON. WAS DISSAPOINTED WITH SOME OF HIS PASSES YESTERDAY, BUT HIS PACE IS A VALUABLE ASSET, MAYBE HEITINGA WILL COME IN FOR HIM FOR THE DERBY BECAUSE HE'D PROBABLY DEAL WITH SUAREZ BETTER, BUT THE 2 ARE PRETTY EQUAL AND DISTIN IS NO WAY PAST IT. WE HAVE 3 GREAT CB'S NO PROBLEMS THERE

at the moment its a no brainer distin and jags have to be the centre back partership johny is woefully outta form and has admitted that himself and next weeks game were going to need distins pace at the back!
