A Message from Bill Kenwright to Evertonians on the club website

Imo he's not a decent chairman, but he's not as bad as many out there, and not as bad as certain people would pretend he is.

Nothing wrong with this for example at all, its a good thing, like when we won a load of awards that people slated for some reason...
But then there's Kings Dock and a lack of investment...
But then there's two quality managers (despite what some would have you believe) in a row.
Pro's and con's all round with Kenwright.
Some just see the negatives.

Bottom line we are far better than we were when he came, but with a good chairman would be far better again.

???

On his watch we've won nothing; seen a deterioration in the club's infrastructure through his stadium failures; burnt our bridges with local authorities, heaped more debt on the club; handed over control of it to people outside the club...on all the major issues he's been an unmitigated disaster.

Last season we finished 6th, when he took over we were in a releagtion scrap every year.. for some the football is also important.

For some the football matters !

Cracking point that. Anyone who says we haven't improved on the pitch in the last ten years must be on the planet mongo.

I'm quite enjoying the lack of relegation threats, even if we are skint and have to duck and dive.

I just dont see why we should accept being skint. Its less to do with the personal wealth of the board (still substantial btw) and more to do with our awful commercial deals, ill advised loans and the mysterious 'other operating costs' (which to this day remain unspecified)

There are certain things are club are very good at - all the community work, but equally there are things we are very bad at - generating sustainable funds towards the playing staff.

On the whole, its been nowhere near good enough.

Yes, indeed, football matters.

This is Everton Football Club. The 4th most successful club in the land. Being grateful or just 'enjoying' avoiding relegation cant be a reasonable objective. It's unreasonable to expect that to be enough.

Kenwright and his friends in low places will always get stickuntil they move aside for/attract in people who can satisfy our ambition to add to our honours.

Of course the team is doing well and have performed a lot better than previous years, they have generally been good since he appointed Moyes and now Martinez, which he must take some credit for.

However, I can't understand ANY fan, who does not understand why some fans are totally disgruntled with the way the financial side of the business have been run under his reign, not to mention the selling off of most of the clubs assets to finance his position as Chairman.

Do you really think there is anyone out there Dave?

Just by virtue of the fact most other clubs in the division have had buyouts it's reasonable to believe that we've had offers and will continue to attract interest. A stadium would be a big pull, but takeovers have occurred without them.

The fans are out there for sure, though. If they were looking for investment they could turn the tap on there anytime they pleased. It could get a few million in that could prove the difference between pushing through the glass ceiling or smashing our heads against it. If they priced shares sensibly I dont think any share issue would fail. However, they refuse to open the club up to investment from that source, because it dilutes their ownership and profit at some future point.

I can completely understand it, but I'm not sure why it has to dominate every single conversation any Evertonian will ever have about Kenwright.
Yes he is naive and probably a little bit vain and wants to keep control of the club. He's a little theatrical and not particularly football business savvy and probably is getting manipulated by other board members. But some people keep treating it as some constant war of attrition Bill is waging and he is embezzling transfer funds left right and centre. We should be pulling more money in and we are badly run and it probably wouldn't hurt the board too much to spend to accumulate, but all this talk about who hates Bill the most and who can offer conclusive proof that Bill is some heartless evil thespian hellbent on Evertons destruction gets a bit boring.
In conclusion, I don't hate Bill, I just want better for Everton. If Bill could run a club to the point where we had a 20-30m transfer kitty, that'd be enough for me.

Far too sensible for a Kenwright thread

But he cant, and that's been proven conclusively time and time again. He cant even be trusted to recycle the money coming in from players.

He's the wrong man for Everton. He was from the off. Since then he's also landed us with people who he cant fully control. The reason that the debate never goes away is that their moving on is central to things changing for the better.

Which people? Out of the people who have actual jobs at the club and aren't just board members who have little impact on the day to day running of the place.

Maybe so. Maybe it requires changing at the top. Or at least just under the top. I'm never quite convinced that Kenwright is solely to blame for all of Evertons troubles, yet he receives 95% of the blame. He's the figurehead for all of the board's failings.
It could perhaps be a case that the important bit, where the employees work on grass, manage to exceed expectations and outdo the measly input and secure our finances, at least for the short term, this season. I may be being optimistic on that front of course and it probably requires a little investment this month, but it's plausible.
I doubt we will ever see it all the same way though Dave tbf. I couldn't dedicate that much time and energy or direct that much vitriol at one man. You could be right. You might well be right, but I can't see a groundswell of opinion going against him, especially as things are going so well.
