A concern about Martinez's approach

Changing players is different to changing formation every game while also bringing in a new approach to the way we play.

It's great isn't it! A manager with a willingness to actually try something bloody new! We've only waited 10 years for it.

Imagine the fume on here if we lose against Norwich. People need to give Martinez time.

The manner of defeat would be key. If we look like a team full of players that don't know how to play the formation they're playing then my concerns will be justified. Martinez does need time, but he shouldn't be immune to criticism if he makes mistakes.

It's quite simple isn't it?

I couldn't be arsed if we lose our pre-season games because they don't matter one bit. It's about trying to get the best formula with the best XI picked out to face Norwich.

We were hardly flexible under Moyes, hopefully now we have other ways of playing that will count in favour in the coming season.

There's nothing wrong with trying something new. It's trying something new every game so far that worries me, when were only 10 days away from the start of the season.

Exactly! So we agree?

Haha, success!

But no, I'm happy 10 days out he's trying things. Don't forget, this squad is new to Martinez, and he'll be trialling them too, you can't find it all out at training. So I'm very comfortable.

Me too, I expect Martinez to put out the side he feels is strongest against Betis on Sunday.

The humidity really played against us today, I don't think we ever got into 2nd gear.

How about looking at this from the opposition POV. They don't know which formation we will be playing which makes it harder to prepare for us. Perhaps you have forgotten a certain 3-0 result back in March.

Martinez has been saying since he arrived that he wants the players to be flexible and adapt to using different tactics, which is fair enough.

However, in preseason he's varied his team selections and formations that much that I'm worried the players aren't really able to get used to playing any formation. Being a 'Jack of all trades and master of none' isn't really what we want going into the new season.

Just hope it doesn't effect us when the real games start.

As long as Martinez isn't worried, then that will do for me. I understand where you are coming from, but I'm sure RM had a reason for making every single tactical change that he made - I would assume that as a premier league manager he sees things a lot quicker and clearer than we do. I'm also sure that every player knew what tactical change he was making and why, and also how that affects their particular role in ther team at that point.
While it would be nice to have 90 minutes playing each tactic so that us fans can understand what is going on, the reality is that RM will have already worked out the positives and drawbacks of each single change he did.

And as someone just before me suggested, imagine you are the Norwich manager - how do you set your team up to play against us for the first game?

I was thinking this myself, though I hope its just Martinez trying to find out what works and what doesn't. Not huge on switching between 3 at the back to 4 half way through a game

Could be worse - could be content with 1-0 after an hour and take Tim Cahill off for Phil Neville.

Was a friendly - surely best to engender new ideas within the squad now as opposed to when the season kicks off.

I think the calibre of player we have here will allow more flexibility as opposed to "less technically minded" squad he had at Wigan.

In my opinion.

I think what would be best is if he picks a formation and refuses to change from that for his time at Everton

Martinez should know by now his strongest 11 after his pre seasosn games in the US. He should know his strongest formation and which players fit into the system he wants them to play.

What does he do with the players who don,t fit if they were playing every week last year? Why are some of the players getting into spats with the manager on the pitch? Lots of positives from the tour but this is the time for NO FEAR BOB to earn his dough as the new season is almost on us.

Interesting flight home.

he is getting a look at the squad ,seeing who can to what nothing to worry about, now is the time to do it, and to be honest im expecting a bit of an up and down season as he makes his mark, were short of one or two players, and as normal we havnt spent to buy in a real game turner, so i dont expect miracles.
