If a majority of Americans oppose what's happening in Gaza, which I generally think is true in an abstract sense, then why did they just vote for an Administration that, pretty much all parties objectively believe, will make things demonstrably worse for Palestinians.

So in order for both things to be true it's because it's not top of mind for those voters. They're like, yeah in a perfect world I wish that stuff wasn't going on over there, how terrible.

Then quickly they move on to why can't these people just speak English at the CVS down the street, how are my investments doing today, wow that tank of gas I just bought for my $90K house on wheels just cost me $100, and man I gotta call my internet provider again b/c it's not working - the world is ending.

They just don't care enough to make it an issue that moves the dial. Really

Because they demoted that issue and promoted cost of living crisis and border 'crisis'. They dont support Trump and his pro-Israel stance.

There had to be pressure applied to force employers to pay more. The Biden administration could have chosen to lead the way and hand out public sector wage increases. They scaled down the rate of federal workers wage increases just this year to 2%.

Well they have a decision to make now. They either turn away from elite candidates or they fail.

Biden won in 2020 because he promised to be a pragmatic deal maker and get stuff done for blue collar workers. It was all top down stuff but it at least appealed to those left behind.

Someone like Ocasio-Cortez has real job experience and could appeal to the Latino electorate. That's the type of candidate to go with - although no doubt it'd be Newsom or another man next time around.

First issue he will make worse if he goes forward with his tariff v tax plan, except for the wealthy of course.
The second one, the fact he vetoed the bipartisan border bill that gave Republicans everything they wanted so he could run on it, proves how disengaged the electorate is. If there is one thing Trump is brilliant at it's knowing how little people care about the actual running of the government. He can tell them whatever he wants and they lap it up.

They need to pull those young white men back and educate them enough to understand they're voting against their interests. How they begin to do this I don't know. They've got Joe Rogan and Elon Musk telling them the world is out to get them and only Trump will help because nobody else cares about poor whites.

Depends how the narrative will be framed when the likes of Trump fail to make any difference to peoples’ lives. In many ways it would have been better if he’d have beaten Biden 4 years ago so people had a bigger sense of the shitshow.

You give Americans too much credit to think it even entered the consciousness of anyone who voted Tuesday other than a handful (electorally speaking) of Arab Americans

I spoke to a group of realtors and real estate investors last night. Virtually all of them are massive Trump supporters. They were shocked yesterday to find that home improvement and builders/developer stocks took a hit and mortgage rates moved in the wrong direction, largely due to inflation fears. My wife works in the industry. Most of her colleagues are Trumpers. When she and a couple of others drove by a house being built and the music being played and conversation among the framers, plumbers, etc was all in Spanish she asked, "do you guys think we'll be able to replace these tradespeople? Who is going to build our houses?" She was met with silence.

Indeed we are about to f'ing find out.

Depends if those labourers and builders are legal or illegal doesn't it? If legal they'd remain if illegal then yes they'd leave but errrm isn't that what the law is supposed to be anyways.

Not sure if you're arguing immigrants who are not legal should be ignored or if you're assuming people there legally are gonna be deported...

We didn't understand the cult of personality surrounding Trump in 2016. By we I mean college educated white collar people.

I could be wrong here. But my belief, with the benefit of hindsight, is Sanders is too much of an intelligent-adjacent personality to win those people over vs Trump. They want Trump because "he tells it like it is" and doesn't use those highfalutin words. It's easier to buy in to the blame game rather than rational lines of thinking.

I do wonder what percent of the GoT US contingent came via the Ivy League Universities. I'm guessing quite a few
